HELP: DIY Lift style storage beds.

I'm looking to get a new bed, and to maximize the space in my room I've found these types of bed.. but they're costly and there aren't a lot available locally.

I'm thinking of making my own DIY and I've gathered that I'll need some gas struts... at least. No luck in sourcing out a company or anything, but am I right in thinking that I could go to a junkyard and pick out pieces from like hatchbacks, trunks, etc?

Anyone willing to offer some help? :)

Gas struts would work you would just have to figure out the weight and find one strong enough. Another option is Linear Actuators like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/12-Stroke-Linear...item255a5e2dbf

Trying to save some money, so I found a cheap bed instead. Good thing is though I could convert it in the future and will keep those actuators in mind, thanks Manic!
