less than 3 weeks to go. come out and compete or if you're unsure, check it out to see if it's something that you might like to get into.

curious... how much does each of those ivanko plates weigh?

i weight approx 215 give or take... how much would i be expected to do on the big 3 to have a decent go at it?

sas 06-04-2010 11:18 AM

the plates vary:

Red: 25 kilo
Blue: 20
Yellow: 15

U can check results from past comps. But just get on the platform if you are serious. My total is around 900 which is pretty crappy but I like competing rather than being a gym lifter. This will be my 1st. Meet, see you there!

i think i'll give it a go next year

thanks xzman... did you compete the other day?

what should i change up between now and the end of july to train for this?

i've never trained to powerlift although i've lifted seriously for a couple yrs now

xzman 06-16-2010 12:29 AM

yes i competed but didn't post near the results i wanted. by the time i had dieted down to hit my competition weight i was too depleted to have any energy.

for increasing bench strength i would concentrate on heavy sets with low reps. i will usually keep my reps down to 1-2 reps (after warming up of course) when i'm 4 weeks out of comp. focus on power exercises for the muscles involved (chest, shoulders, tri's) don't waste your time with dumbell flys or other hokey stuff - concentrate on heavy pressing exercises. form is very important as to prevent injury of course, but is also one of the crucial things you will get judged for.

if you have been training for a couple years you would have a great foundation for powerlifting. if you are ever out in coquitlam, fire me a message and i'd be happy to spend some time with you to show you not only how you will be judged in any event, but also techniques that will increase your bench immediately
