Stop thinking about the food that Van has the offer but the variety and how we embrace multicultural atmosphere here. I had someone that came from Trinidad. This is what I did. Dim Sum, Japadog, Japanese Ramen, fresh and good sushi downtown, commercial street for some great bakery and then chill out with a glass of beer watching the world cup.
Also went to eat Indian food and chilled out eating fish and chips at Pajos.
Sell the experience, not the food and I'm sure your relative will have a lot more fun in town.
