Vehicle Inspection

Well I just got a VI last night just got a few quick questions. I got this VI because of no front license plate and hids is that something they can give me a vi for seems a little bit harsh... the officer did a 20 min walk around my car telling me to do what he tells me to do and he couldn't find anything on my car. This is my question though since we don't have air care on the island do we still need a cat to pass the inspection.

kind of a "grey" area but in short. yes. most places will require you to have a working exh system (meaning inc cat to burn off unburnt hydro-carbons and whatnot)

They can give you a VI for anything that they think may look questionable. You HID's wont pass, a no cat will fail a visual inspection.
Aftermarket HID's are a completely legitimate reason to give a VI. They dont know if it was installed in a legal manner (all DOT approved wiring/housings/reflectors etc...) or if its some backyard job with a cheap chinese HID kit in incandescent bulb housings that will scatter light differently and potentially light the car on fire from someone wiring it with crimps, murettes and electrical or duct tape.

You wont need a cat if the car is older than whatever year they started making it mandatory. late 80's i think ??
make sure everything on the car works. licence plate lights, windshield washers etc etc or it wont pass. You may be able to ask most shops for a list of what they check before submitting the car to them
good luck
