Exhaust Coatings - Powder vs Ceramic

I tried running a quick search, but couldn't find any info comparing how a powder coat differs from a ceramic coating.

Issues such as:
- heat
- thermal expansion rates
- scratch protection
- longevity/durability

I'm mostly doing this to protect myself from the inevitable rust damage.

And I'm afraid I can't go stainless without upgrading the engine as well, something I can't do just yet due to budgeting.

Thanks!

you can go SS without upgrading your motor....what's stopping you?

most of the time, a deteriating exhaust will rot from the inside out; so i would just wait, and save up for a nice SS exhaust system.

Is this for your scooter? If/when the exhaust rusts, get a new one.

yes, and no, I'd rather not do that.

It'll eventually die and will be ugly the entire time.

Nobody has any experience with powder vs ceramic?
How do they handle on rims and brake calipers?

I don't know what kind of EGT's a scooter makes but most of the time powder coating doesn't hold up as well as ceramic coating and ceramic coating is more effective at shielding heat.
Have you thought about thermal wraps?
We can make you a full custom stainless exhaust when you are ready.

How much more hp is the full SS exhaust going to produce on his 50cc scooter?

One of my buddies got his ceramic coated for about $80.
Phil, you make it sound much more desirable than powder.

What kind of benefit would I get from a thermal wrap?

I heard a 2 stroke exhaust is super complicated to design.

A 2-stroke exhaust won't help me get anymore HP, but can either widen or narrow out the powerband.
The hard part is tuning the peak power into a fairly narrow band, bringing it into alignment with your engine's powerband. All the while still providing acceptable power outside of that narrow band.

Phil,
They are usually in the price range of $200-$350.
Probably not cost effective for anybody to build one from the ground up and test it.

What's EGT?

EGT is Exhaust gas temp and in a two stroke you need to keep as much of it contained as possible to aid in scavenging.
Ceramic coating does a better job of containing egt's and it lasts longer.
The thermal wrap works very well also and is cheap about 30-40 bucks a roll and all you'd need is one. If you're up to the ride come over and I'll show you a roll and how it works.
