speeding on bicycle I know you can get ticketed for speeding on a bicycle, but I was curious how its broken down in the MVA? Do they have a penalty scale like they do for cars (ie 1-20 over, 21-40, or whatever it is) or are they the exact same tickets issued as if you were doing it in a car? If they are the same tickets as in a car, would they then carry points/impact drivers risk premiums? (would seem odd since you're uninsured/ not required to license to ride a bicycle) Wouldnt any on-road cycling events constitute street racing or something to that effect? This whole thought occurred to me after the penticton triathlon where alot of us were hitting 75km/h + on one of the hills which is a 40 or 50 zone |
Speeding tickets apply to vehicles and a bicycle is a vehicle. I have ticketed a bicycle for speeding 21 plus over and for running a stop sign. They were contested and the disputant lost both charges. The Act & Regs both say that cyclists have to obey them, except where there is a specific exception...eg turn signals. |

^lol, thats awesome! Zulu, would moving violations just be the fine portion of the penalty? or if you hold a DL do they affect your drivers risk premiums or points or whatever is in place just like if you did it in a car (despite you dont need to be liscenced to ride)? |

^You'd think so, but the triathlon I mentioned there were a few volunteers at a couple intersections holding up traffic, but the roads were deffinately still open and not an officer in sight (and ditto for alot of cycling events here in vic) |
