Rim opinion

Hello, wondering what kind of rims would be good for my friend's car:

His tires are wearing out and is wanting to change his rims.

Thanks!

Not making fun or anything but it's amusing how often something starts wearing out so you want to upgrade a part that's nearby. It's like how the A/C pump in my old MX6 started dying, so instead of simply picking up a bypass kit (like a normal person would), I installed a stand alone engine management system (Megasquirt) so that I could simply disable the A/C option in the ECU.

I love those rims on the SL as well! Better looking than any other OEM wheels that came with the SL.

I love the look of the stock ones too, but they don't look like they're easy to clean at all :/

New SL63 amg replicas might be affordable/easier to maintain, maybe check out RS sponsor sora't for replicas

Currently, the rim size is at 18.. but he's thinking of getting 20s?
And his budget range is about $3000

If his budget is $3grand then just tell him to buy new tires seriously. Going to end up with garbage for $3g, unless your buying used.

3K budget, you're better off just getting tires

if not go for ADV1

I know your friend has older Gen but Adv1 offers different offsets.

Also i got this email a few days ago about inventory for Mercedes SL from ADV

Mercedes CLS / SL
ADV5.1 Cast (FlowSpec)
20X8.5 / 20X10.5
Matte Black
10 sets available

They have it in stock at the moment.

LOL, Jline...than carlsson??...thats like comparing a cubic zarconia to a real diamond.
carlssons being the diamond...and the jline being the cubic....

If his budget is only 3G...i suggest he get some nice tires and a set of hub adapters for the rears and spacers for the front...

tires alone will run him 1000+...that only leaves him with ~2Gs for rims. Even if he's looking into used, there isn't much of a market...or anything that may look awesome on a SL.

IMHO, HR hub adapters + HR spacers + nice tires + lowering to get an agressive look is much better than trying to cut corners with OK tires and OK rims...just that alone will cost him 3G.

I hope he is not expecting to throw rims/tires on it without lowering....that would look awful.

tell him to buy tires now...and save up for nice rims.

just make sure he doesn't end up buying shit brand tires that none of us has ever heard of. Tires will def go above $1k.

I agree with the first guy. Get tires, forget rims, and lower the car.

he should just get a new set of tires...

with 3 grand, he is only able to afford a used set of rims (with used tires...which defeats the point). new 20" wheels with tires will run about 5-10grand depending on the brand

^ yes, newer AMG mercedes rims are not bad looking, you get to wait for someone to throw some cheap ones out on ebay or forums.

Unless you are pulling out 5-6g for 20"+ rims (aftermarket), if not buy some oems

As said above, look at the cost of lowering it + new tires and see what's left, also see what he might be able to sell the stock ones for. Finally, I'd try to pick up a set of used OEM rims from a higher model, the ones freakshow posted look great.

Oh and don't forget, bigger rims with thinner tires start to get less comfortable to drive on.
