HONDA RECALLS '03 '04 Civics / Accords / Element

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10921161

The recall involves about 197,000 Accord and 117,000 Civic models from the 2003 model year, as well as 69,000 Element vehicles from 2003 and 2004.

The fault could allow the ignition key to be removed without the vehicle being shifted into "Park" and could cause a car to roll away, Honda said.

A parallel recall in Canada covers a further 44,000 vehicles.

Honda said it had received several complaints about the failure of the ignition interlock mechanism.

It said it was aware of "a small number of incidents, including one that resulted in a minor injury".

Honda said customers would be notified from late September.

This is the third recall Honda has issued over the same problem. The previous two were in 2003 and 2005.

Here is another link: http://www.canada.com/news/Honda+rec...659/story.html

And a quote:

"If the transmission is not in park and the parking brake is not set, the vehicle could roll and a crash might occur."
Umm.. what did you think was gonna happen if the car is not in park and the e-brake wasn't up??

lots of car manufacturers have recalls, even great ones. I dont think its a big deal really. They are doing the right thing, and addressing the matter.

just about all the car i've experienced had major recalls:

2002 Ford Explorer: recall for rear tailgate (glass might fall off and cause injuries/death); recall for cruise control module (some have been found to cause fire).
1995 BMW 530i: Major Engine recall due to improper engine cylinder lining which would damage due to the amount of sulfur in North American Gas (engines were recalled to be replaced with another upgraded engine block, and warrenty was extended).
2004 Audi A4 1.8TQ: Iginition Coil pack problem - finally audi has committed to make this a recall. The coil packs are crappy and cheap and I have replaced them 8 times before they announced it was a recall.
2005 BMW X3: Heated seat recall (mainly US models - heated seat would operated to too high temperatures and possible burn the seat).

Lol you gotta wonder about this people who're getting themselves injured just because they can get their keys out the ignition without being in Park.

First of all, what are you doing leaving the car with the handbrake down? And wtf dude, if the car's starting to roll, hit the brakes!

How many millions of cars are manual? You can stick 'em in any gear you like - 1st, 6th, reverse, neutral, and your keys will come out anytime, everytime. And somehow, I've never heard of anyone getting hurt because of this. Seriously darwinism.. work your magic.

Better than the recall my sister's Lancer had, during the winter salt and build up could cause the air sensors to fuck up and not deploy the air bags.

i'd glad take the " i can take my key out of the ignition when it's not in park " issue.
