Hello empty forum, slipping away to a barren wasteland devoid any kind of life. Not a single postwhore in site, or even a n00b to get into a flamewar with.
Not entirely something I've been innocent of helping. Once things started drying up here, I've pretty much only been surfing the Vancouver side, and cars haven't been my focus for a couple years.
Anyway, I got a taste of a new hobby the other day which I found was pretty exciting. I went skydiving in Campbell River, and did the first jump course to jump solo from 3,000 feet.
A family friend used to instruct there and I talked about him with my instructor as well as about the sport and the people in it. I was reminded of when being a car enthusiast was my priority, and my memories, experiences, and friendships formed mostly through this message board.
I think no matter what the scene or hobby or industry, there's those that pass through, or have an interest, and then those that become enthusiasts. The enthusiasts really bite into something to see what it's really about, and achieve what they feel they are capable of achieving before either circumstances or or priorities change.
I know I'm an enthusiast, and it's almost impossible for me to just hold a passing interest in something. I'm sure I'm not alone here, this was a place for enthusiasts. What have some of you other guys moved on to and spent the last couple years doing?
For myself, after cars, it was partying which turned to organizing and promoting my own, to throwing weeklies at a nightclub, and now to co-hosting a radio show. Priorities change however, so while that will still be a part of me, it's cooling down. Onward and upward.
My Stealth is still sitting, it's become a prize for myself once I'm where I'd like to be financially. Sometimes I find myself looking through used car ads and wanting a cool car, something sporty, something fast. I forget I already have that in the garage waiting for me. I just need to earn it back again.
Well, this post about what I did on the weekend turned into a fucking novel. Here's a pic from the other day. Anyone else on here skydive? I can see myself doing this some more, how can I move on when I haven't jumped from 10,000 feet yet? I want to experience that freefall, wonder if this will be the next hobby, and the next community, that occupies me for a few years.
