Korea

Hey

I have the option of studying abroad in korea for a semester

The thing is I have no idea about the culture, food, education, cleanliness, etc... i probably couldnt even point it out on a map :P

Just wanted to get your input on Korea (the place is a few miles away from Souel), and if it is worth going away for a semester

Btw I am east indian so I do not know how that will factor into the equation

Thanks!

It will definitely be different, particularly because of your race.

Being a few miles away from Seoul could either mean you're in a dump or in a half-decent city.

You need to really do your own research, considering you know absolutely nothing about Korea and it's culture (or so you say). It might not be the best place for you to visit.

Being fluent in English means jack shit if you try to get around in Korea. If you don't know Korean and you're not in Seoul, it's pretty much GG.

I recently came back from exchange there but I was in Seoul (which is in a really big city).

It depends on the university. When you sign up, it will tell you whether or not there are courses offered in English or strictly the native language.

The food is good, if you like Korean food.

TBH, other than eating Korean food, you're not going to have much variation; whatever variation you find, you're going to extremely disappointed and relatively paying out of your ass.

they have many western food or italian food and such which taste better than here. Only food I thought sucked in Korea was pho. Everything else, if you find the right restaurants, are way better than here

i studied in seoul for a semester too.

they love foreigners... their was a guy from kenya there and he fit in fine. you'll learn korean fast, it's not a hard language to learn.

i went to korea not knowing much nor having a major interest in their culture, food, etc. but in the end, it was an awesome experience.

I absolutely disagree with this as with many of my int'l classmates.

I've even had a few Korean people agree with me in this regard.

A lot of chefs in Korea learned to cook in different areas depending on the type of food they want to major in. They actually go to top school in Italy to learn Italian food and such which is why a lot of the food there taste better than here. A lot of international students here don't really know the good restaurants in Korea to be honest. It depends on the area you go often, the area you live in and such. For example, people from Pusan would think western food there is crap cause Pusan is famous for seafood. A lot of people don't also explore apgu jung dong cause the area itself is expensive. But there are many good places there.
