FMIC and front end crash..

Here's the story. So I got into an accident where i rear ended someone so my front is squished in. Hood bent up, bumper crushed in, headlights bent in and my fmic bent in.

So i got the car sent to craftsman collision after icbc accessed damages. Then today i got a call from ICBC telling me to remove my car (at my expense) from craftsman. They took a look at my car and didn't want to touch it because thats not what they do appearently. ALSO craftsman told ICBC that i am missing the re-bar and front absorber behind my bumper. I didn't know this since i bought the car with the FMIC already installed. Now I have to find a shop that will fix my car. The kicker is that ICBC wants me to install the rebar and absorber again (at my expense as well). Then have it inspected after it being repaired.

I'm not too mechanically savvy..so i'm wondering since i'll have the re-bar and absorber put in..will the FMIC still fit in the bumper?

has anyone had any experience with icbc in this case? Am i pretty much shit outta luck?... and have to pay my ass out if i want my car back installed with a FMIC. Do i have any options?

I'm assuming this is on the STI?
take it to a reputable shop and have them have a look at it, anything is possible so there might be a way to put the re bar in without having the FMIC in the way
hard to say without seeing the car itself

If the rebar fit with the fmic installed I don't see the point in removing it, so for sure there were some fitment issues when the previous owner had it. The rebar should fit with some trimming.

majority of the FMICs for STi will require the removal of the rebar because the FMIC uses the rebar bolt locations. ur gonna have to remove the FMIC and reinstall the rebar to pass icbc inspection, but then removing FMIC will possibly require u to get retuned, OR, u can just drive with no boost while slapping on the stock TMIC back on for the inspection, which is ur best bet, becuase i dont think moding the rebar to fit the FMIC will pass ICBC inspection.

Dot means department of transport. Its north america's safety division. So, yes, its valid for both.

You cut your rebar, or you cut the foam pad sitting on the rebar?

I would think ICBC wouldn't want to cover you, if you happen to get into an accident.

Just curious... What made you cut the rebar on your car?

Actually it's funny you say that. I asked because I figured you'd be too stupid to know the difference between the two.

I think what you meant to say was...

if you go with that, saying that your modifying the crash zones associated with you car, then all vehicles with roll cages would be illegal, and yet i have friends that wouldn't be there if their cars didn't have them. if the modification allows for safety and still allows for your FMIC, then i dont see why ICBC wouldn't let you have it.

I wonder if it's a situation where additional proctection is okay as long as all the original impact provisions remain in place.

this is a long shot but try save on autobody in rmd. ask for jimmy chow the manager. 604 279 9292. call him up and explain your situation and see what he says. not sure if they are open on the weekend though.

i don't know much anymore about intercoolers on a turbo ej25 but is it possible to temporarily run without it? ie. just leave it out and bridge the gap with a intermediate pipe and dial the boost down, get the car fixed with all the rebar and whatever back in, and then get it inspected as per icbc demands. and when it's fixed and passed... it's sawzall time!

This is what we have done in the past (not claiming this example is our work). Is it accepted by icbc? I doubt it but at least your investment is better protected in the event of a frontal collision.
