I recently got my Class7L and now wish for a bike.
How can I get my license and etc?
Got tips?

take a course with PRS. They are good.

in terms of a first bike, you should go and sit on some. Hit up Burnaby Kawasaki, or Daytona Motorsports and sit on some bikes see what you think.

I got my license this year too and started off with a 500cc bike (Suzuki GS500F :D) its adequate for me and as a beginner I dont wanna spend a lot on my learners bike and accidentally drop it :(

but I would advise you to take a motorcycle course, PRS helps you with the MST exam as well as providing you with hints for your Class 6 test.

500 cc bike not a bad idea....250 is a little small for some and just perfect for others so i dunno depends on how you think you'll do ...again do the prs course its worth every penny..i went straight to a 600 and no problems for me but depends how you do in the course and depends how confident you are/ your riding style

Take a course first. As people have suggested - Pacific Riding School.

After the course, decide if this is something you really want to get into. If so, find a bike. Ninja 250s are great starter sport bikes although there are lots of others to choose from.

You can ask the instructors what they would suggest to you.
I would suggest the ninja 250 as a first bike because it has decent power and good for a beginner. Otherwise if you are set on a 600CC bike I would look into an older one.
What it comes down to is how mature of a rider you will be and if you have throttle control. Peer pressure and wanting to show off is what gets ppl in to rouble by riding over their limits. Check out www.bcsportbikes.com as well.

^bcsportbikes is a great place to get insight into many aspects of motorcycles. poke around the forums for used bikes that locals are selling, and when you are ready to buy a bike, go on google and look for tips on what to watch out for when looking at used bikes.

as others have said, its alllll about the maturity and skill/confidence of the rider. if you feel that a 250 is adequate for you, consider getting a 400, 500 or 600cc bike because you may grow out of the 250 soon. again, consider your level of skill/confidence and what you intent to use the bike for, whether it be cruising/daily commuting, or spirited riding so to speak.

PRS is awesome. i cannot stress that enough. the training and skills they equip you with makes them an industry leader.

also consider the fact that insurance for bikes go according to their displacement (cc).

It is so much easier to learn with the upright riding position - plus zero plastics to wreck when (not if, when) you drop it. $4K will get you onto a decent used one, and they require very little maintenance and have a great reliability record.

Haha, so true. I've been riding for over a year now and I still managed to drop my bike doing a right turn out of a parking lot. Luckily it was slow speed so only frame slider and mirror took very minor scraping, didn't touch the fairings at all.

250 is a fun little bike. You can go WOT on that thing. My wife rides the 250 now and she says it is too fast (but she's really only going 50 km/h), lol. Only thing, it does get blown around a bit on the highway

i was taught to respect the bike not be afraid of it =P

Change your riding style according to road conditions.
If your brakes lock up, don't panic. Release the brakes, then reapply.
Don't be a show off. Bikes are fast, even if it's a 250cc ninja. Showing off increase your chances of getting hurt and looking like an idiot.
Ride as if you are invisible and any car on the road can and will hit you.

Time to save up for the Ninja 250r...

Great place to start. These bikes hold their value well so once you've mastered the basics and have some confidence on the road then you can move up. It will be a very easy bike to resell as there are always new riders looking a first bike. Good luck, and always respect the bike and what's it's capable of regardless of how big or small it is :D
