Meat & Bread

A new specialty sandwich shop that just opened yesterday. It's on Cambie just off of Hastings, kitty corner to Victory Square.

More info: http://scoutmagazine.ca/tag/meat-and-bread-vancouver/

They only offer a few sandwich choices. On the menu were porchetta, beef, and grilled cheese.

The porchetta is roasted pork that is cut up in front of you.

This is the one I tried, and it was pretty good, although a bit fatty. The sandwich itself is not very large - maybe about the volume of a small sub from Subway. The cost is $8 plus tax, and with a soup and salad, you're looking at $13-14 for a modest portioned lunch.

I think the place is worth trying, but I don't anticipate being a regular there even though I work less than two blocks away. I'll stick to walking a couple extra blocks to my regular by-the-slice pizza joints.

I checked it out for lunch today.

I ordered a Porchetta ($8) with a lamb and pea soup ($4). The porchetta meat was excellent, juicy and tender with a bit of a crispy crust but (and this is a big but) the sandwich was really small for $8 (they could have at least loaded on the meat) and the side soup wasn't very big as well. Trendy place but at $12 there's a lot of other alternatives downtown.
