shoulder muslce pain? help

So i sat in front of the computer for too long, my shoulder/back muscle got really sore/tense/painful. I got frustrated and did a falcon punch than that pulled my tendon :(

its been 3 months and im starting to get very frustrated

i seeked accunpuncture, suction cupping etc, chriopractic (x 2 of them)

already spent about $1000 on medical, so far i healed about 80% but it seems the last 20% is very hard to heal.

if i pull my arm a bit to the back i can feel my tendon popping, like its not smooth. ANd the shoulder muscle part still gets sore from time to time.

Anyone got any suggestion? which doctor? clinic? location and phone number will be helpful.

THank you

:(

I've had chronic shoulder pain for a long time.

Icy hot or the rubs will help in the short term (I have these patches I go through like mad that have are like strips of bandage that have the icy hot on them, you just slap them on and you're good for a couple hours with out mucking up your clothes or as much smell). Naproxin (Aleve) works better then Tylenol and Advil too (at least for me).

I find yoga helps a lot better then physio ever did. It's all the stretching I think. My yoga instructor was very helpful when I explained where my pain was and gave me some good stretches to do when it's acting up.

You should go to a differant doctor and insist on an ultra sound (which can be used as a diagnosis for tendenitis) and an X ray (to rule out structural abnormalities). Ask to see a rhumatologist if they can't find any real reason for it. It took me a year to get the dr to take my shoulder pain seriously then a year of testing to rule out various structural abnormalities. Shoulder pain is often misdiagnosed as less signifigant than it is and often the pain you feel is referred rather then the true source of the injury (for example my injury is in my shoulder joint but I tend to feel it along the back of my collar bone and base of my neck).

Salonpas! whenever i get muscle or bone pains, my mom gives me these. patches that stick onto you, that give a cold sensation. i guess its pretty similar to what TheNewGirl suggested.

they smell kinda wierd and minty... some people like it, some dont. just be careful because the smell is quite strong, so if you dont like it, it might get annoying xD

^although this is a US website, im very sure these can be found here, because my mom has an endless supply of these somehow ;D

TheNewGirl 11-05-2010 02:22 PM

Those are the ones. I buy them by the boat load at T&T.

Specifically these ones: http://www.salonpas.us/other-products/salonpas

They do have an odd smell but they're not nearly as stinky as Tigerbalm or Icy/Hot

Also, as it occurs to me that you're male, if you've got any body hair on your back/shoulder area you'll want to remove it before using them as it's pretty much like slapping some medical tape on your skin.

PuYang 11-05-2010 02:37 PM

^hahahaha yeah careful with the body hair! luckily, being asian, i dont have back hairs xD
ive stuck some on my arm before, and ripped off some hair, but it wasnt too bad.

actually, it might be easiest to just go take a hot shower with it on, as they become less sticky and peel naturally a bit. and after a warm shower, peeling things just feel much less painful.

sounds like the previous injury may have limited the use of your rotator cuff making it weaker, i would suggest trying out the strengthening excercises (google ftw) with a light weight or elastic band. This may help. also physiotherapy is covered under most benefits plans now :P

how about an inversion table?

it flips you upside down so everything locks into place??

And your doctor says the normal healing time for this type of injury is??

And the preferred method of rehab is??

I'm getting the impression you're taking wild guesses or expecting things to heal like a cut at this point.

Yeah, what he said.......j/k

You could have separated the shoulder joint when you "falcon punched", thus causing ligament damage. I've dislocated joints before, and it's basically the same thing. If you get x-rayed, they will be able to tell you for sure if you have separated the joint or not. Unfortunately, there isn't a "cure" really. You can do light exercises with it, and try not to overwork it. The strength will come back slowly.....but don't go and overexert it in the healing stage. That will just put you back at square one.

These things don't work worth squat. My buddy bought one for his back pain, used it regularly, and saw no changes.

Regular physio and massages fixed him (sorta).

hamsup 12-14-2010 09:37 AM

go to kelvin physio... he'll fix you but he'll put tons of hurt bombs on you.. lol

gdoh 12-14-2010 09:49 AM

resistance band is your friend

V35 12-15-2010 09:25 AM

A/ Fix your posture THIS IS KEY

You will notice a huge difference in soreness.

I took this advice of my massage therapist and my pain has been significantly reduced.

chest forward, head back, every inch your head goes forward is 10 lbs stress on your neck and shoulders.
