Any ICBC agents on RS online right now?

Just wondering what the minimum insurance I need to have my car parked on the street in front of my place.

Thanks!

you need basic autoplan coverage.

storage insurance is only valid if you park off the road.

And to add to that, it must be on private property to be eligible for storage insurance.

You just need basic, true, but if someone hit-and-runs, steals it, it gets keyed, or some kid smacks it with his bike, you have to pay out of pocket for repairs.

If you live in a house with parking but want to put a car on the street and money is an issue, you might want to consider parking your DD on the street and leaving your non-driver on the property, with storage insurance. Even with comprehensive and liability coverage, it's going to be pretty cheap.

Oh BTW if the car you're talking about is currently insured and you want to put storage insurance on it, just transfer your policy to a storage policy. Dont cancel it, then put storage on it. It's cheaper.

Basic liability allows you to have the car on the road in public.

If you want to be insured against vandalism or theft, add comprehensive coverage.

If you want to be insured against that C-lai on your block that drives that E-class with more paint scrapes than a tugboat, get collision coverage.

You have to cancel the current insurance before you put it in storage, unless the insurance has expired.

The broker can use cancellation "T- temporary out of use", and she can waive the $30 cancellation.

there's a difference between storage insurance and basic insurance, because w/ basic you're just buying the cheapest insurance for your car to legally drive. Storage insurance is when you actually store your car, which i believe does cover you from theft, vandalism and acts of god/nature.

OP, if you want storage you can't park in front of your house as other members have mentioned.

You can have both cuz ICBC loveees your money
But on a serious note when you cancel a policy, depending how much is owed in the end (Financed or not) total refund will affect your storage allowance.

If you opt to buy storage then icbc will give you $30 credit towards on the day. That $30 will depend on your vehicles rate class (Eg: Weight, Theft, Age, Area etc...) my corolla can get around 4 months of storage with comprehensive coverage (Glass, Theft, Bon fires...)

only if the C-lai is driving your car. Hit n' Run is still Comprehensive

TPL Third Party liability compulsory is $200,000 bare min. Covers accidents involving property damage and human life. Also good if you don't wanna cancel that special lucky lucky 888 license plate.

Lets say you cancel the car and you park it up the street. It has no insurance and the brakes fail, it rolls down the hill and flattens that pesky kid that throws firecrackers at your dog (Oh my) his parents throw a fit, sue sue sue and you're a hobo.
Plus you can get fined/ticketed from by-laws.

OP Park it in your property or friends property. Bonus points: disconnect the battery or fuel relay if possible to prevent theft.

"Basic" insurance is the compulsory $200,000 third party liability coverage. This is the mandatory minimum coverage required to have a car on the road.

LOL!

I would think with such an avatar, the answer would be no but rather, (and I am assuming) he has had poor run-ins with ICBC.

Thanks for all the input guys!
My dad let me park in his garage as long as I cleaned it up to make room for my car.
Also put a storage policy on it
