Period based TV series

What period based television series would you recommend? I'm on the last couple episodes of The Tudors and need a new drama to follow. I've already been through Rome and Spartacus and am currently following Boardwalk Empire, yet can't really think of any more names for a decent and modern series. If it's off a network like SHO or HBO, even better. Their stuff tends to be much better than basic cable crap.

Any suggestions?

I can't get enough of Mad Men. By far one of the best current shows on television and definitely the best drama, compared to maybe just Breaking Bad. There isn't a bad acting job anywhere. The scripts are subtle but compelling.

Like The Tudors or Boardwalk Empire, a period based show takes place during a certain time in history -- the former during the 16th century and the latter during the 20's and 30's.

As much as I enjoy "modern" based series, I tend to enjoy these period series better.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far. I'll look into Mad Men. As for The Wire, while that's a great show, it's not a period drama. Anything else out there?
