That ship on the moon was probably the Ark, and that bot at the end looks like Alpha Trion, one of the original 13 Transformers.
He could also be Unicron, but is much too small to be him.

No it's a continuation of the series with the same characters (minus toe-fingered Megan Fox). It's just with a new plot.
