The Tommy Westphall Universe (Warning: TV Nerdiness in this thread)

For those of you who don't know about the Tommy Westphall Universe, heres how most television shows you've seen in your life are linked, and occur in the mind of an autistic child:

According to the incredibly detailed information compiled by some super-obsessive fans, this universe has been in existence on television for 60 years.

This goes from I Love Lucy to Star Trek to Buffy to Family Ties to Walker: Texas Ranger. Its a giant WTF. Some of it is reaching (Cheers to Fraser to the John Laroquette Show is reasonable as those characters made cameos, but the connection to Buffy is via a passing reference to the same in-universe corporation.) I think the same thing happens with the Weyland-Yutani Corporation from the Aliens/Predator/Terminator universe.

so let me get this straight. Your saying all these shows came from the mind of an autistic guy and he actually acts them in his head?

El Bastardo 12-29-2010 09:22 PM

Yeah. Sorry. I didn't clarify that. Thats exactly correctly, murd0c.

Its a huge mindfuck if you think about it

murd0c 12-29-2010 09:42 PM

I have to say I'm shocked I was right about that but I was super duper baked when I read it.

I'm lost.

Its kind of like one of those "It was all a dream" episodes.

Imagine that you're watching CSI, and then all of a sudden the guys from Breaking Bad show up on that show. One of them is the son of one of the guys from Mad Men. That means they all technically take place in the same "universe" right?
Well lets say one of the guys from Breaking Bad drives to Miami and crashes into one of the characters from Dexter who is so seriously injured they have to be flown to Seattle where they're worked on one of the doctors from Greys Anatomy.

That means all of those characters can infinitely cross into each other's show. You can see Dexter's sister Deb sitting in the lab next to Archie from CSI while he investigates crime scene evidence related to Breaking Bad's Walter White.

But since all of those shows have characters crossing over with each other, if suddenly McDreamy from Greys Anatomy wakes up and says "Woah, what a crazy dream" that means that technically the shows CSI, Dexter, and Breaking Bad exist only in his head.

Well imagine that, times 250+ shows occurring all in one kid's head.

Alternatively: Robin falls asleep and dreams up superheroes like Superman, Green Arrow, The Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Wonder Woman. When he wakes up, those superheroes don't exist and the only ones who do are just him and Batman.
