Help with Acura 1.7 EL

So my gf's EL just had a bit of a problem today. Apparently it started to overheat like crazy so her dad pulled over to cool it off a bit. When he started the car again it was all shakey and everything.

I'm not entirely sure how to explain it as i'm out of town, but could I get some advice on what might be wrong?

Thanks!

^thanks for the input.
i've been busy so i forgot about this thread.
unfortunately my chinese comprehension isn't the greatest, so when her dad was explaining to me what's wrong with it, i could only catch bits and pieces.

basically it's a leak, but not a regular one. something involving the engine or something? the repairs is quoted at $1800. I don't know how but, any ideas what it may be? I'll try asking again when I get the chance to

It could be the water pump, when was the last time the water pump was serviced?

a quote for $1800 sounds like something major like a head gasket, rather than a water pump
