How much do you pay for car insurance a year?

How much do you pay for your car insurance for a year?

Also, are annual insurance rates generally more cheaper in USA, HK, and Taiwan than ICBC?

There's another thread about this with numerous responses. I pay close to $5200 for my Civic with a 40% surcharge.

About $1300 for my Accord. One great thing about keeping a car for a long time is that it gets cheaper and cheaper every year to operate it.

The states: All else equal, it's cheaper depends on the area you drive (if the area has a history of high claims rate, you'll pay a lot more than ones who does not).

I'm paying ICBC $1500 for 2M liabilities. 03 Celica.

Yeah, but that thread is pretty old. We need an updated thread.

$5200 is quite a lot. That can buy a decent 2nd hand car for one years insurance. Ever thought of just taking transit so your CRS can drop first?

I heard this somewhere. If you don't insure a car under your name, your discount will not increase. Anyone can confirm?

ICBC is a crown corporation (owned by Gov't) so its the ONLY option for car insurance in BC. Naturally if there is a monopoly on something, prices are going to be higher than if there were multiple car insurance companies.

thats why insurance in the states are going to be significantly cheaper in most cases. Also, there are far more Americans taking out policies that just meet their states minimum coverage compared to canadians who buy "basic autoplan coverage" without any additional coverage. As for HK and Taiwan I have no idea.

A few questions. How much price difference is there between broker to broker?

I notice so many people buy the minimum deductible of 300$, but imo, doesn't it make more sense to just get like 1000 to 2000$ deductible since it's always better to just pay for the damage yourself and not make an ICBC claim since it's going to screw your ratings anyways?

None. Prices are set according to scales set by ICBC Autoplan according to car type, coverage, and discount rates. not individual brokers.

For your second question, $300 dollars is a lot easier to come up with if your in a pinch to fix your car compared to $1000 dollars. Short term cost of fixing your car vs. long term cost of a low-deductible policy.

Also unless your at-fault, your 'ratings' (by which i assume you mean 'discount rate') does not change. If you meant accident history though, yeah it will be if you claim it.

Not true. Discount starts as soon as you receive your license. You don't have to insure a vehicle for it to start.

When I moved here last year to insure my car, there was about $100 difference in quotes from place to place. One quoted me at 17xx, another at 16xx, and finally, i settled at just under 1600

Also, 98 civic at just under 1600 for just 1mil coverage on 10% disc.

i was paying $1600 in BC.
i am paying $300 in Quebec. ridiculous cheap, but this is basic insurance only as it's a beater. if i wanted the full coverage it would have been close to $800, but thats still 50% less than what i paid in BC. ICBC is a major rip off.
