Out of Province inspection for JDM converted Integra

Hey Guys

I currently reside in Edmonton, but have plans to move to Vancouver in the fall, so I thought this may be the forum to check out.

My DD is a 96 Integra DB8 and I found a great deal on a JDM front clip. Was thinking of doing the conversion come April, but didn't know if it would pass OOP next fall when I move to BC.

IS there anyone here who does OOP inspections or has a JDM and knows if JDM conversions (Specifically the headlamps) which I believe are not DOT approved and lack the corner amber reflector housing, would pass? If they don't comply, are there any shops that may be more lenient? (please don't post names).

Also my car has a rebuilt title with the inspection passed 3 years ago in Edmonton. (not sure if this would hurt anything).

Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

do the conversion but do not change out your lamps..

keep your stock lamps

my car is being rebuilt with JDM front end as well, (is300) and it has passed due to me keeping the stock headlights, passing then swapping them to the JDM ones

he won't be able to do that because DC2 JDM headlights are completely different than its USDM counterpart.

What JDM front end? If its bug eye then keep your original housings and you'll be fine.

He can't use the USDM OEM head lights.

Going from this

To this

(grabbed the pics from google)

You should wait it out and do the conversion after you come to BC.

i'm pretty sure your normal tech from Canadian tire that gets paid $20/h isn't going to give a shit about your headlights and tail lights;
but stuff like brake pads and tire wear

^ yeah i was thinking that too. what you could do is message somebody who has the conversion done on RS (there's quite a few, e.lo is the first that comes to mind, he's also a mod) and see what route they took

But because we don't have to get our cars inspected, we can do the conversion without any issues...

UNLESS of course they get a V.I. otherwise, you're good to go.

Just wait until AFTER you've had the inspection done here.

Regardless of wage, the technicians are certified and held liable by the Province for the inspection. I would personally suggest performing the inspection using USDM lights first and afterwards doing as you please.

once it's got RHD non DOT headlights on you are not gonna pass nothing.

You replace the non-DOT headlights with DOT headlights (along with everything else that's required to make you pass)

wouldnt it be the same headlamps.. they are both JDM

i think your talking about the circle headlights, which in this case he would need a USDM front conversion with headlamps..

Trying to pass a car with non-compliant equipment on it means that it should fail the inspection. Switching back the non-compliant lights, reflectors etc after an inspection leaves you open for more tickets for having illegal lights, another proper inspection and VTs for "failing to maintain to standards". That is when you mod a vehicle to be illegal after it has passed an inspection. Why not just have legal equipment and avoid the hassles and expense? BTW, the " normal tech from Canadian tire that gets paid $20/hr"
who inspects your car has to be a licenced inspecdtor. He can get fined and have his inspection ticket pulled if he does an illegal inspection and his employer can get into doodoo for permitting it to happen. Why should he put his inspection ticket on the line, face a $368 ticket and get into trouble with his boss...all to help you? Makes no sense for him.
