I should be getting over $6k back this year, we'll see if cra agrees with me

Accountants:
I claimed the spousal tax credit since my wife made no income in 2011. My income is >30,000, so that would disqualify us, as a married couple, in getting premium assistance for MSP. Would we be able to keep our MSP coverage as individuals, or we aren't allowed since I claimed the spousal tax credit? If we keep MSP coverage as individuals, her premium would be completely subsidized.

Let me rephrase - if you don't own a business, paying someone to do your taxes is a waste of money.

Did my taxes for 2011 and I had a shit load of papers to turn in since I bought RRSPs, was on EI while I was at school for my apprenticeship, was a full time student, had T4s from working... That was about 7 different papers.
Brought it all in to H&R block and got it over with nice and easy. Did I mention I was a student last year? Under $30.00!! That's less than what turbo tax would have cost.
My return was.... $6200
Good thing I went to school last year. $2000 for completing 3rd year and $2500 for completing 4th year

Would probably end up with the same return anyway. It's true though that $30 isn't that much money, but the tax programs make it pretty easy to fill in just a few numbers from each form.

My dad got me $500 =D
He's awesome! I think by doing the taxes on the computer he became pretty proficient at using the computer now. He seems so natural at it these days.

i am getting back $5400. i have always used ufile. found it to be quite user friendly right from the start. $15 bucks to generate a tax return and $9 per additional taxes that need to be generated.

Go to H&R block or split the cost of a tax program with someone. For 2010, there was a free online software to do your taxes. I tried it the software isn't that far off from what accountants use.

TIA | If she gave you the papers after and you signed it then I assume that it was paper filed and you were supposed to mail it in yourself. Was it completed on paper? Netfiling wouldn't have required your signature but then again if it was e-filing then it does require it. Did you give the papers back to her?
