The NOA is the final summary of your tax return CRA sends back to you after you file. If you're filing for the first time, you won't have a NOA for 2011. Therefore, your prior year tuition carry forward amounts would be 0.

In order to claim your tuition, you need to get the T2202A slip from your school. This is the tax slip equivalent to a T4 for employment income. It'll have the tuition amount for the year and the # of months you were full-time/part-time. Most schools allow you to view/print from your online account. I remember SFU had the option fairly easy to see from the main page after you logged into your student account, not sure about other schools.

Did your employer withhold some of your salary for taxes last year? If you didn't pay any taxes on that 15-20K, then your small refund sounds reasonable.

Can you use that form for every year you are paying your tuition back? or can you only use it once? It was weird, last year I maybe paid 2700$ in taxes and got all of it back. The year before I was on ei, worked 70 hours a week for 5 months, and went to school. Got a 5000$ check and lost it on the way to the bank. Thankfully one of those rare homeless people recovered it and gave it back to me. hooked him up with a fat bill. I don't mind the h&r method. but after hearing of some of the tips and tricks from a friend(if you live with your wife/gf you can claim all sorts of awesome benefits.)

you get a T2202A for the year if you were enrolled that year. you report it on the tax return for that year. there is no double dipping.

i'm not sure what you mean by "pay your tuition back"?

Did my taxes by myself for the first time using studio tax, getting $268 back. As long as I don't owe, I'm happy.

i tried using studio tax, but on the T4 section I cant seem to find line 50 for RPP registration #?

Also, I received a letter of reassessment from the CRA for my 2012 cause I punched in the wrong income. I received an interest refund and they told me I need to record it for my tax return. On which form or line do I place this?

Oh one more question. I graduated in Nov 2012. can I still file for all of my paid 2012 tuition? On studio tax it states that only "students" can input their tuition fees....

10 percent every pay cheque is not much... trust me.... I would love to have that much cut at this point.
