Spotted: Alfa Romeo 156

Went to the auto show the other day and saw an Alfa 156 in the parking lot. No idea where it came from as iirc the 156 was never sold in North America. I'm guessing it's a Mexican import? Anyone know more about this exact car?

i bet the guy got it from the US (just like the evo8s & 9s) & yes i know there not sold in the usa as well so i bet from somewhere else originally

if not then the best bet is he shipped everything by parts & just assembled it here as some ppl do that

Like the local R34 imo it'd be way too costly. I doubt a 156 would be chosen if someone were to be bonkers to that level haha I wish I could have a Brera here

There was a thread about importing cars from Mexico, I Googled this though:

Quote:
The amendments to the MVSA and CEPA 1999 will provide a balance between maintaining safety for Canadians, protecting the environment, and meeting the needs of individual Canadian consumers and commercial importers. The amendments ensure the Government of Canada complies with the North American Free Trade Agreement and continues its cooperative relationship with Mexico. Amendments to the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations will need to be implemented in order to enable importation of used vehicles from Mexico. It is estimated that it will take between one and two years to complete these amendments. Environment Canada will also need to make amendments to its emissions regulations.

So I'm not too sure how that car got here :S

One of these was on Craigslist a while back. I emailed the guy just to ask how the hell he got it plated. It might even be the car in the original post.

Well, that was easy.

My message:

Hello! The following is a reply to your "932 Alfa Romeo 156 1.9 JTD Distinctive Sport" Ad on Kijiji:

From: XXXXXX@gmail.com
Hey, is this car still available?

A question though. I thought Alfa pulled out of North America in 1995? How is this post-95 car legally in Canada? Of course, there's the 15 year importation law, but this car isn't even 15 years old yet.

Thanks.

XXXXXX to me
show details 4/14/10

If you immigrate to Canada you are allowed to bring in any make and model of car or motorcycle that you owned before you entered canada, it had to be yours before.

Lucky Immigrants can do it once.

Yes, the car is still for sale. Plus, Alfa Romeo will come back with Fiat in 2011.
