Chevy Volt Burns Down Garage

Quote:
BARKHAMSTED, Conn. -- Fire officials suspect an electric hybrid car may have sparked an overnight blaze in a garage in Barkhamsted on Center Hill Road.

.......
Officials said they can't rule out that the couple's brand new Chevy Volt hybrid had something to do with the blaze.

Lame news article. The fire investigation hasn't even been done yet and they're making it sound like the Volt started it.

If it turns out to be something else, perhaps Chevy should sue the paper for printing this article before the results are in.

if anything i bet the owner didn't want to pony up for a 240v outlet and tried to jerry rig his 120v outlet to put out more current

too much current = heat
heat = fire

even car and driver tried it and said their contraption put out a lot of heat

There have been a number of recalls issued for good old gasoline vehicles spontaneously combusting and burning down homes.

Garage full of junk and two cars. A brand new Chevy Volt and what looks like a POS Suzuki Sidekick with the hood open like it was being worked on. And they blame the Chevy for the fire.

Yep, I'm willing to bet this fire was due to shitty house electrical wiring.

But of course this is Revscene, so blame is automatically assigned to anything named Chevrolet, Ford, or Dodge

maybe the 'something to do' is the batteries exploding from the fire and acting as an accelerant?

"GM announced that it had sold 321 Chevy Volts. This is in addition to the 326 Volts sold in December, indicating 647 have so far reached customers. Nissan for its part only sold 87 Leafs , and only 19 in December for a total of 106 units sold, less than one sixth as many as Volts."

They are not exactly "burning up the showroom floors" with new sales. A total of 647 sold, in spite of all that advertising, Govt support and subsidy, Obamas's personal endorsement, being car of the year etc...I guess the thought of replacing the $10,000 battery may be holding some potential buyers back? Or maybe the spontaneous combustion problem?
