Roach, why did you proceed with repairs before contacting definitively someone from icbc?
Doesn't sound like 100% icbc's fault to me. Posted via RS Mobile |

^^ From what I understand the initial estimate was far lower than the secondary estimate. So based on the information from ICBC he probably said go ahead and fix it. Not until the bodyshop actually got to work was the real amount found out and by then the repairs were already underway and ICBC would finish it rather than write it off at that point.
Berz out.

Initial damage estimate from my ICBC estimator was $5300. No biggie. Fast forward a couple of days, I got a call from my bodyshop that the damage estimate was approved at $13k. I called my ICBC estimator immediately to determine whether the car was a candidate to be written off. My three calls were not returned over a span of two weeks. I escalated the situation to the estimator's manager. By then the car was well into it's repairs.
All I got was an apology from the manager for lack of customer service. He even admitted that the salvage value of my vehicle was miscalculated. That it could possibly have been written off. But at that point the vehicle was already being repaired so I had no recourse. I explained that I raised the issue right away. Too bad so sad as per ICBC.
Thanks to the rioters who fucked my car up. Thanks to ICBC for fucking me over.
My fight isn't over yet. More people need to be aware that ICBC is not on your side, even if they publicly say they are doing everything they can to help the victims of the riots.
Kev | A few questions.
How come you only phoned 3 times in 2 weeks?
Did you approve the bodyshop to go ahead and repair the vehicle? You probley gave them the go ahead for the 5k damage but obviously at 13k you should have told them to stop work. All they did was strip the vehicle and re asses the damage. Vehicle is then determined if it will be fixed or not. If they started repairs and it was considered a total loss the shop would have to eat the work they did.
ICBC is not side takers its a business and its run by people that can make mistakes. You think other insurance companies like CDI and Family will be working for you?
You need to point the finger at the estimator, yourself and maybe the bodyshop.

Berz out. | Correct. I proceeded signing documentation based on the the estimate of $5300. Upon discovering the finalized estimate, I contacted ICBC. Quote:

You need to point the finger at the estimator, yourself and maybe the bodyshop. | Hi VR6GTI, upon discovering the estimate had risen to $13k I called my estimator right away:
June 28th - leave message with estimator.
July 4th - Leave 2nd message with estimator
July 7th - Leave 3rd message with estimator
July 7th - Contact dial-a-claim number regarding lack of reply, get contact of estimator's manager. Leave another message with him.
July 8th - Reply from estimator's manager - stating he has reprimanded the estimator and apologizing profusely for failure by estimator to return my calls. Indicates that now that repairs are underway nothing can be done. I wasn't aware of this.
I agree that I take some responsibility in this. Mainly for not informing myself more on how to manage the situation. It's my first time dealing with ICBC for any claim whatsoever. And in that, I did not know that I could stop the repairs. For some reason, I was naive to believe that ICBC would be going above and beyond to serve it's customers who were victimized by the riot. Unfortunately, the complete opposite occurred. I was ignored and left in the dark.
My update to this thread is mainly a heads up to anyone dealing with ICBC to do your research and inform yourself as much as possible. Even if you are a victim in a claim, ICBC is not necessarily working in your favour.
In this case, I believe the negligence by the estimator resulted in my claim being mishandled. Both in a poor initial estimate as well as a failure to respond to my multiple attempts to contact him.
The car should have been written off based on the calculations provided to me by the estimator's manager. I'm not going to divulge that information at this point as I will be filing a complaint with the Fairness Commissioner.
If anyone of you ever find yourself in this situation in the future, feel free to shoot me a PM.
Kev

From the way my friends describe it to me from London - the riots aren't as big as they were in Vancouver. In Vancouver, we had thousands of people participating, while there were many more standing around watching - while in London - they are in groups of hundreds. They're moving from location to location though, and meeting up all over the city, so it's eluding the police.
That said, from what I heard - I think the London riots will have done more damage compared to the Vancouver ones.

Really makes me wonder if there some of the same people involved in the London riots.
There was plenty of push back about invasion of privacy when the CCTV system was put in place in London.

Kev | Sounds like you need to go to some kind of news outlet. Like the Linda Steele person on CTV. Especially since this damage was cause of the riot and how ICBC is fucking you over I guarantee they would LOVE to do a peice on it. And chances are, when you get on the news ICBC will cave.

I could post up a story here regarding driving prohibitions, drinking driving, etc. of an acquaintance that would make you want to write a 10 page letter to the government
the system is flawed as a whole

i just had an incident at work the other night. just so happened that the lead officer was a long time friend. talked to him the next night he said the camera footage was awsome, the witnesses gave solid statements, they caught the man red handed, and during the interview at the station he admitted to the crimes.
won't get charged for 1-2 years. back on the street within 24 hours.
and fyi sexual predator not the typical theft.
