SpringBoard froze and crashed twice for me already while running JB (only thing I downloaded was SBSettings). No idea what caused it but I restored and running non-JB for the time being.

SBSettings is fine for me. Remove Background doesn't work tho.

I thought I was the only one with sbsettings and winterboard problems.
I did a "shift restore" update to 5.0.1 as a new phone. I keep it simple and just install sbsettings, appsync, and winterboard. Then I noticed the phone would lag especially after opening the notification center. At least 1-5 secs before any action would register. Once in a while the phone would just reboot or respring on its own out of no where. Also the phone would say I'm in "safe mode" and want me to restart. I thought something went wrong with the update and jailbreak so I did a shift restore as new again and installed sbsettings and appsync only and it did the exact same thing. I did another shift restore and this time only have appsync installed and everything has been smooth for the last 3 days. I just miss being able to hide icons i don't use and the ability to respring or reboot without having to use the power and home button.

you transfer purchases, sync, and backup everything in itunes first. if you are very paranoid about contacts, i always suggest google sync and idrive contacts (easier). i backup my photos using ifunbox and camerasync->dropbox.
use redsnow to select the 5.0.1 ipsw and jb from there. after you are done the jb, setup as NEW phone, install installous and then restore. otherwise all ur jb apps will error.

you can change the home URL in installous? interesting
... but why does that really matter?
they've been hounded by Apple lately so i wouldn't be surprised if anything doesn't work there. it loads fine for me atm tho.

So, how is the untethered JB? I'm on 5.0 and I'm trying to see if I should update and get it JB but after reading some comments it seems as if there are a lot of problems? I also heard that if I update to .2 my bats may drain more?
So, ultimately, update + jailbreak? update? What is your experience so far?

It's worth it and I say upgrade to 5.0.1 and jb it now before apple suddenly releases 5.1 and you can't update to 5.0.1 anymore.

I'm a little confused. One person says that when you purchase an iphone 4s unlocked and use a provider's sim, it will stay locked to that provider, but another says differently.
I got my iphone directly from the apple store and have not put in my fido micro-sim yet. Once I do, will it stay locked to fido? Or will I be able to use it anywhere I go? For example, if I go to Asia and decide to use a local sim there...

Unlocked = Never will lock..
If you bought your phone from the Apple store unlocked for $649 or more.. then, your phone is unlocked. Quote:

Depends on usage.. I can barely use it in a day and squeeze out close to 2 days worth.. roughly ~39 hours.
When I'm constantly on it, I get my 7am to 11pm with maybe 20% remaining.

I have a bunch of little problems with the jailbreak on my iphone 4 restored as a new phone. I only have Appsync and 3Gunrestrictor installed. Emails stop pushing after a few hours and require a reboot for it to start working again. It doesn't even fetch. Sometimes on reboot, all the settings will reset, or the icons are white and blank, or the stock apps (calendar, photo, clock, weather, mail, safari, etc.) don't open and crashes. All these problems will require another reboot except when all your settings reset cause you will have to change the settings back manually. I have jailbroken my iPhone since the 3G at 3.0 and this current jailbreak is the most unstable jailbreak I have ever used. Going to restore and leave it stock from now on. Posted via RS Mobile

u sure 3Gunrestrictor isn't causing this?
i've done 5 devices to 5.0.1 already, just 3GS and 4, but all are fine even with installous(appsync), sbsettings, winterboard, weeflashlight (on the 4's) and the shitload of apps
