I knew the risks of being on a motorcycle, from the environment around you to the people you're riding with, everything is at high risk every time you're on 2 wheels.

So my time finally came.

I had some hand warmers installed by the crew @ Imperial motorcycles last year, and when they installed it I was informed that the glue residue between the hand warmers and the throttle would come loose if I heated it too much. Since the install, I've had a slight issue once with the throttle being loose, I was able to rotate the grip back to its normal position.

Today I guess maybe because my bike sat in the sun during work my throttle was off. I went off as usual, following some cars at a slow pace I noticed it wasn't feeling right. I slowly tried rotating it back on when it seemed to have over rotated and cranked the throttle. R6 on instant crank and cars in front of me, my only option on a 1 lane road was the hammer the brakes, which sent me into a highside and the bike went sliding. I always envisioned that this would happen to me some day and when it happens I will curl up like a turtle and ride my back protector.

My strategy saved me from any more injuries. I have a sprained right thumb and a few scrapes on my left leg. I was wearing a bionic jacket and jeans with boots. My helmet was unscratched and even my backpack seem normal from my impact. The R6 on the other hand slid on the frame sliders, but my shifter was in an S shape, and surprisingly, I was able to shift 1 N 2.

I was very thankful everyone that was there on this busy road stopped and tended to me, as well as an off duty fireman and a few first aid trained people. Just wanted to share my experience with everyone say stay safe with gear even if its hot out! Without gear I'm sure I'd be in the hospital getting debris picked off my skin, anyone who went to PRS will have heard that story :fullofwin:

Now on to the bike, since my shifter pedal is messed and it doesnt shift past 2nd gear, does anyone have any shop recommendations to get it fixed or looked at?

Glad to hear you're alright! Wish you had thought to grab the clutch though, could have saved yourself some serious pain :(

yeah I thought about it over and over and I wish I grabbed the clutch as well. But at the moment it happened I seriously didnt think that it accelerated that much to highside. Of course I was wrong :D

I now see that because my clutch pedal is rubbing against a bolt from the rear set so its not my tranny that has an issue, just gotta buy a new rearset and Im good to go again

Dude, I have Oxford heated grips on my bike and haven't had any issue with them moving when warm, and I rode during the winter with them cranked to the highest heat setting. No offense to Imperial, cause they sound like a good shop from other stuff I've read, yet there's no way I'd accept that.

Were you just wearing just regular jeans?

Yeah I got the oxford ones on there, I'm not sure what to say to say, Imperial warned me about it, but they are a relatively decent shop. I'm getting the hand warmers taken off.

And yes Culverin I was just wearing some Levi 514's. Got 2 penny sized scrapes and 2 nickel sized scrapes. 1 of the nickel sized ones was on my kneecap so it's somewhat annoying walking around.

Ugh. Road rash sucks.
I always wear riding jeans now. Kevlar lined, padded at the knees.

What kind of impact damage did you get? Bruises on the wrists, shoulders and knees? How's the neck?

glad you're okay! walking with road rashes suck -.- especially when your clothes get stuck onto them

No neck injury. My right thumb feels like a sprain, sore left shoulder, and a few scrapes on my left leg near my knee, wouldn't call it road rash though, its not nearly as bad, I've done worse playing basketball/football. Walking sucks cause my biggest nickel sized gash has a bandaid on it and its stuck to my leg hairs lol

Maybe you can put a different throttle on? Maybe the diameter of the throttle on my SV is just enough wider than the R6 that the grips stay on tighter...

The R6 throttle fits on my SV, its a common mod, so maybe there's another throttle for your bike.

^ Thanks Taylor I'll look into that, but personally I don't need the hand warmers anymore, I no longer work that early in the morning.

I hope I never high-side my bike.

That's more like an endo/stoppie. A high side usually happens when you lose traction, then suddenly regain mid turn. :D

i'd take a low side over that any day lol

It also happens when you slightly lock up your front while entering the corner then let it go...

Almost guaranteed at least a broken collarbone and shoulder if you're going at speed... not to mention the concussions :(

Good to hear you're okay tho, that throttle issue sounds like major hazard, good call on getting rid of it.
