2 die, hit by truck on freeway in Ont.

Happened this morning.. sounds pretty gruesome..

Quote:
BARRIE, Ont. - Two men were killed in a horrific highway crash outside Barrie, Ont., on Friday morning, when they were struck by a transport truck.

Police said the crash happened around 5:50 a.m. local time. Another 18- wheeler had broken down along the highway and a heavy-duty tow truck was in the process of hooking it up to take it away.

The two men were standing in the lane of Highway 400, north of Barrie, when a transport truck coming along the road struck them.

Const. Peter Leon of the Ontario Provincial Police called the crash scene one of the worst he's seen in his 23 years of police work.

The truck that struck the men came to a stop about 300 metres away, leaving a gruesome trail of debris, Leon said.

The driver of the truck that hit the men wasn't physically injured, nor was the driver of the tow truck.

``With any type of collision like this, shock sets in,'' he said.

Leon described the highway as a flat stretch of road, adding the sun would likely have been just coming up when the crash happened.

The investigation into the crash is continuing. Most transport trucks carry downloadable black boxes, Loan said, adding that will likely be part of the investigation.

It's too early to tell whether charges will be laid, Leon said.

this article is a little confusing to understand, were the two men the driver of the tow truck and the driver of the broken down 18-wheeler?

It says tow truck driver was not hurt.

The two men could both be drivers of the same truck. Truck drivers do drive in pairs sometimes for long distance trips. Thats pretty gruesome sounding though
