its not a highway, thats king george blvd in surrey. thats one of the 3-4 spots where cops are always camping out. speed down that stretch of road is 70km/h. somewhere between 80-100km/h is what most people are cruising at down that stretch of road and its why cops are always there.

Exactly, that morning going into whiterock they were camped out near the railroad tracks and then this one bunkered down in the corner there.

Oh yah the lukas 7700 140$ shippped in the US
In my research the 7700 model apparently it doesnt have the option of having constant power which is crucial because you would want the parking mode feature.

With large cap SD cards so cheap it is rather pointless to record to parking mode..

Garmin is making a dash cam, soon to be released... might grab one of them since the warranty is probably easier to deal with if something breaks, unlike the Blackvue.

Been in too many close calls with cyclists for me not to get one tbh.

Hands-on with the Garmin Dash Cam

Looks like ass, and I'm personally not a fan of dash cams that have a live screen. I prefer the small, indiscreet ones that can hide up behind your rear view mirror so it's out of the way and not in your line of vision.

Back on topic. I'm quite liking my Finvu CR500. I still have my Blackvue, Ottosaver, and the Chinese Butt Plug. I don't use them any more, but I am thinking of getting a Lukas, just for the hell of it. The 7900 would be nice, but the 7700 looks like it could work well........ can't beat the price point.

What would you personally recommend? I'm not down to pay 400+ for one of the Blackvue models but still want something that won't crap out on me after a few weeks... it's a bit hard to find once since there are no distinct "brands" for them

I heard some great things Lukas 7900/7700. I was planning on leaving in my car in the summer.Since it's heat resistance is a big plus.Just haven't pulled the trigger yet on purchasing one.Love the video quality on the DOD. The images at night are so clear.

Lukas or Finevue. You do tend to get what you pay for. That said, I've got a Blackvue dash cam that only cost me a couple hundred, but like many others, it's been suffering from various issues.

Mind you, it's already saved me a bunch of money through ICBC because I didn't have to pay my deductible a couple times after being hit and the camera catching the other persons licence plate.

Would it would be okay/safe to constantly run a battery pack for my dash cam?(i.e. when it's parked overnight, etc.) I don't really want to hardwire it. It's specifically for either the GT550W or GT680W dash cam off ebay.

Thinking about using this battery pack.

Funny you asked but I got a GTW680 already and I am about to use with the RavPower RayPower10400mAh battery that I just received. Do keep in mind that another member in the posts earlier said an external battery may not be built to take the heat in the summer, especially in the car and using an external battery may not be recommended.

However for the short times that I am out, I think an external battery may work for me. I will test it to see how long the battery lasts when the camera on all the time.

Yeah, I'm just worried about keeping it plugged in overnight; whether it would damage the battery or over heat in the glove box while I'm out. The RavPower seems to have more than enough power for the dash cam to run over night, maybe I'll pick that up instead of the PNY.

Mind me asking where you ordered your dash cam off of?

Keep me posted!

okay, battery is full as shown.
Starting test. Results tomorrow. The test would not be ideal as its in a warm house verses outside in the cold but should give a rough estimate.

I order my from e-prance on Amazon.com when they had a super special a few months back. Foxoffer has great price at the moment and is recommended by many.

while alternative dashcam is nice..

I like my Blackview because its stealthy.. Im not liking the big honking dashcams that is very noticeable or blocking my view

BTW, any dashcam that can do 60fps?

I would suggest you keep the Li battery pack in a metal container. If those things catch on fire, you really don't want it to be in the glove box (papers, plastic and usually a wire harness or 2).. or worse your car in the garage and it catches on fire. (chances are you won't be able to move the car out). Imagine what ICBC and house insurance would say.

At least wire it so that the battery only get charged during once the car is underway (so no surges etc) is probably the safest method. For the safest method go to RP electronics and get a Pb acid battery, those things have less volatile chemistry.

I think it is New West, Braid Street and Brunette. You are not supposed to cross train crossings on red lights. You have to stay put on the stop lines.

same with shell/alderbridge, people always drive past the stop line

i couldn't tell if it was rcmp/new west police or if it was CN rail police.

I'd argue against that last part, there was a discussion on this quite a while back. IIRC railway crossings are not defined as an 'intersection' in the MVA, and so the only rule is that you have to stop at the red; there is no rule that you can't proceed after stopping given a clear path ahead. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Still, close call there. I've never seen anything like that before, heh.

There's usually a sign with an arrow that says "Stop at this line on red" or something like that.
