RCMP gave a ticket inside vancouver?

So my friend was pulled over on 22nd and Rupert by a RCMP cruiser and was given a No N sign ticket.

hes still in Vancouver and not Burnaby. Does the cop has jurisdiction to do that?

Legit question, not trolling. just wondering if he could dispute it.

RCMP has jurisdiction anywhere in Canada if I'm not mistaken.

My brother in law was attempting to stop a vehicle for speeding, and the vehicle continued on for a very short bit until crossing the boundry into Vancouver. The driver then stopped. My brother in law walked up to the vehicle and the driver was smiling at him.......and said "we are now in Vancouver proper, and out of your jurisdiction" . My brother in law turned his shoulder a bit to show the patch on his shoulder and asked the driver what it said........ Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He then asked the driver what country he was in...........the smile left the face of the driver!!

RCMP can issue tickets in Vancouver.

Can VPD issue tickets in Burnaby?

VPD and all municipal officers have jurisdiction in all of BC where RCMP have all of Canada

It would depend on the offence. A VPD officer could enforce a Criminal Code offence in any province since it's a federal statute. I wouldn't expect a VPD officer to enforce the Highway Traffic Act out of Saskatchewan.

I think a lot of people forget or don't even realize that "RCMP" stands for "Royal CANADIAN Mounted Police"

Delicious story. Did you brother give him any other fines on top of speeding?

+1. Considering you have even an ounce of common sense, what the hell else could it stand for?

Everyone talks and types in acronyms these days; I don't think people even bother to stop and think about what any of them actually stand for.

Sounds like a case for the AAAAA - the American Association Against Acronym Abuse!

West Vancouver Police will patrol in North Vancouver if they feel like it, and issue tickets. Same with the RCMP, they'll freely enter West Van and do the same

even in the US state troopers cross lines. If not at the very least to help the other state police. Prosecution is debatable though. Sometimes they will expel a criminal back to the other state to press charges.
