Luxury Supercar Weekend 2011

http://luxurysupercar.com/

Tons of horsepower and money parked on the lawns of VanDusen Gardens this past weekend. I wish I took better pictures but dammit, it was f'n hot out at noon and mid-day sunlight isn't great for photos. Either way...lots of just gorgeous cars on display.

I was a little disappointed there wasn't a McLaren F1 although I was surprised at how good the MP4-12C looks in real life. The doors say otherwise but the looks aren't nuts. The matte orange paint looks great.

The 458 Italia also looks even better in real life. I didn't think that was possible but this is just about the best looking car in production right now.

Right next to it was the GTO and a Maserati MC12.

Gran Turismo.

Ferrari Dino

Lots of Lamborghinis around. Gallardo Superleggera, some Murcielagos and the new Aventador. It was roped off and they wouldn't let anyone closer although they did start it up sometime just before lunch and...well, it's loud and glorious.

Countach and Miura. The design of the Miura just holds up...still looks stunning.

Three or four Jaguar E-types on display. I saw one driving down 99 earlier in the week too. Just totally beautiful. It just says gentleman all over it.

BMW 1M

Some sort of M3.

Here's a funky electric car that's just going into production called the Von Mynheer. I thought it looked like a boat.

What's interesting is I'm told that at quick charge stations, it can charge in 8 minutes while on most everything else, it'll be about 2 hours, which is substantially less than most other electric vehicles.

Tesla Roaster.

Lexus LFA. Costs way more than everything else in the same class but it does look rather good in red.

Toyota 2000GT.

For all the Porschists. I can't tell which is which since the 911 has looked the same since time began so I'll just leave them here.

This classic one looks great though. I forgot to write down what it was...

Past and current Merc SL's.

And some Fords. That's a Ford GT but with a several thousand dollar paint option...

Matte black looks good on everything...like Aston Martins.

Google tells me this is a Jensen 541R.

And some other interesting cars that were there but no one bothered to tell us what they were...and I imagine I'd have to be a huge car nerd to actually know what they're called.

Fun event. There's fashion shows right after lunch and several drink sponsors just hooking tequila to my veins...which was good because it was boiling out there.

Did anyone go on Sunday? The Bugatti Veyron Supersport wasn't there on Saturday.

That electric car is idiotic.

Why would anyone in their right mind buy a modernized version of a dune buggy named the Chico, especially if it has a price tag that reflects the advanced electric drive system.

Lol, I wouldn't have went but I did for work and got 2 VIP passes which are 150 each. Standard tickets were 50 with no food or alcohol. Most ppl went for VIP.
I would never pay 300 bucks for my wife and I to go to a car show

I have to think that $150 puts it out of range for most people and I didn't feel like I received $100 more than the standard ticket, which was basically free alcohol, a fashion show and a box lunch which might have cost $10 if you ordered it at Bread Garden. I mean, I don't think I got $100 in drinks. I had a media badge so I didn't pay admission but I'm not sure I'd get a VIP ticket instead of general admission.

The crowd in there, especially sitting in the fashion show, looked like they're all rich folks. There was a lady wore a hat like the sort you'd expect at the royal wedding...so I doubt the extra 100 makes a difference.
