I was in the same boat lastyear. Let's just say prom, grad, artona was wayyyy fucking overrated. Prom was 800% worse than I expected. You just sit around and do nothing but talk at your tables and take pctures for 3 hours.
In pics it won't show how nice your suit is. No one really gives a shit imo. What I recommend is if you're on a budget is go to h&m or the moores downtown. H&m has cheap slim fit suits. Quality is pretty shitty though. Material isn't that nice but the suits look pretty good. Personally I went to moores and got a jacket and pants for under $200. Fit me perfectly. It was as good as tailored. Then I went to rw & co to get a dress shirt. Paid a bit more for it because the dress shirt I can wear for years down the road whereas I'll grow out of the suit.
I disagree to those who say you should rent a suit. You will be wearin the suit more than 4 times during the year so it will be more expensive than buying one. (artona, winterformal if you have one, prom, grad and a few other events). Dont go too crazy with the colors. Keep it simple. Some people had weird color schemes going on and busy patterned ties. Doesnt look good IMO. But if you're ballin out of control you can do whatever you want. A rich kid from my school spent 3 grand on his outfit lol.
Why was I so cheap? Because at the end of the year there are so many parties and events where you will need the money

Go to The Bay, H&M, Gap or any big gox store. Pick out a suit for cheap. Better when they have a sale.

High School Grad?

Nobody gives a shit. They probably don't even know the difference between cotton and polyester. Oh, and you'll probably never see these people ever again.

zara is decently priced but over 200... mexx HAD some crazy sales. They usually have suits marked down from about 300+ to under 200. rw has suits too that aren't that expensive.

i didn't read this, but a general rule for suits

a cheap suit that is fitted properly (tailored) looks >>>>>>>>>>>>> expensive suit that is not tailored
