Memory Express carries it.

Just pair it up with 2GB of RAM. It's plenty enough for a HTPC.

I would really go with a smaller mITX case though.

I was going to pick up the Gigabyte Z97MX for $130 after MIR, but it's hard to ignore the price of the ASRock Z97M Anniversary for $75 after MIR. Will be paired up with a 4690k. I guess I don't really need all the extra bells and whistles.

I would not recommend the Z97M Anniversary. It's basically a H81/B85 budget board with only 3 power phases. It's fine for the G3258 for the most part, but if you plan on doing some nice overclocks on your i5, I'd stick to something better.

If you don't mind ordering online, the ASRock Z97M OC Formula is the best bang for your buck Z97 mATX board available. $139.99 after MIR on Newegg, although you'll have to wait for it in stock.

If you want it now, then get the Gigabyte Z97MX Gaming 5.

I hope Cyber Monday would be good too. Didn't see anything attractive enough online at all. Only NCIX had something that was kind of interesting, but then I am stuck at work, so I couldn't go line up for anything at all...

hey guys,

first time ever looking into building a gaming PC. Spent about 5 hours today researching and watching a myriad of how-to YouTube videos. Got some free time this month so I'm gonna get back into gaming

currently, this is what i have picked out:

CPU: AMD A10-7850K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus AM3 Plus AMD760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard M5A78L-M LX PLUS
Memory: G.Skill 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Silicon Power S60 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Antec EarthWatts Green 380W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

so apparently my motherboard isn't compatible with my cpu, or apu in this case.
say that i keep everything as is; would the motherboard be the only component i must change? is everything else compatible?
budget's $500 to $600

big noob here. Any help/tips/insight would be much obliged

Are you sure you really just want a 120GB SSD? Also, the PSU seems woefully inadequate.

In case you haven't looked into it yet, NCIX's Cyber Monday promotions seems to have some items that might work for you. At a minimum, there is a 430W EVGA PSU that is $15 after a $20 MIR.

I don't recommend getting APUs since you can usually get a processor and a video card for roughly the equivalent amount that will offer much better performance. APUs will never match a dedicated video card, ever. Not to mention that there's basically no upgrade path for the FM2 socket.. least if you go with Intel, you can upgrade to an i5 down the road.

G3258 ($70) + HD7850 ($90) + MSI Z87-G41 ($60) = $246.4 after taxes

A10-7850 + A88XM Gaming = $281.34 after taxes and MIR.

You could shell out an extra $45 for the i3 4150 if you don't want to overclock the G3258 and you'll still end up with roughly about the same cost but with gaming performance that's many times better.

You can get the HD7850 and Z87-G41 from NCIX's warehouse open-box. They come with warranty from NCIX for 7 days instead of 2 weeks and then it's the manufacturer. Good savings can be found there.

So, I've been using a super slow caviar green 1TB HDD that's finally full, and I'm looking for an upgrade speed and capacity-wise. Any recommendations on a 2TB or 3TB HDD (or an alternate recommendation) before the deals go away?

Most standard traditional 3.5" drives nowadays perform close enough that you can just go with whatever's cheapest.

I figured as much. I'm guessing brand doesn't really matter when it comes to these drives?
