good point. Though that MB only has 2 ram slots, so it was the cheapest DDR4 1x8GB stick I found.

The low end i5 was a bit of a concern for me, I was hoping that one day there'll be a release of firmware to allow BCLK OC'ing on the MB. Like how they had skyoc. Not likely to happen though.

Picked up a Core i7 6700K, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, 4x16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2400, Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI, and a 1TB Sandisk X400 M.2 2280 SSD last week.

I'll pick up a new graphics card next month.

Well, my fiance got a new iMac 5K last summer with an i7 4790K, 32GB DDR3 1600, Radeon M295X graphics, a 128GB SSD, and a 3TB Fusion drive.

I figured if I was going to upgrade, I had to at least beat her Mac ...

Did it end up costing less than that imac?

I reckon that 4x32GB ram was close to 500 beans.

Her iMac was like $4000 or something insane like that last year. I try not to think about it. But, yeah, substantially less expensive.

Mine was just under $1300 after shipping and taxes, but I'm reusing my case (Lian Li PC-60FWB), power supply (Silverstone ST1000-P), monitor (Dell Ultrasharp 24" from ~2010; can't remember model), HDDs (1TB Western Digital Black, 2TB Western Digital Green), DVD drive, and Windows. And, obviously, haven't got a new graphics card yet (Probably the RX 480 8GB, so $300+; using Radeon HD 5850 1GB in the mean time).

Yeah, I can see that setup lasting about 10 years. Aside from a monitor upgrade, more like addition to multi screen.

That's a solid build. There seems to be a lot of hype around this RX480, I can't wait for it to be released.

Damn, didn't realize the 1070 was like a 400 dollar USD card.

Yup RX480 wins for sure, when it drops to MSRP. With the exchange rate, the RX480 8GB should be 320 CAD.

I was able to snag a "deal" on it for $450 before taxes. Trying to see if it's worth keeping, even at that price.

I am looking to buy a small form factor Windows 7-based PC to be connected to a TV via HDMI.

The purpose is primarily for online video streaming. Will a video card with HDMI under $100 suffice for this purpose? Not looking to game or do anything wild. Thanks in advance.

I'm not positive, but you should be able to feed 1080p with onboard graphics these days. My media PC is some 10 year old thing I can't remember the specs on, with a 5 year old Geforce 210 Silent video card and it puts out 1080p@60fps no problem.

I agree with underscore. I'm not familiar with AMD processors, but when you buy Intel it comes with integrated video so you can actually look up benchmarks on them. They don't game well but they should be able to process video fine. I also think playing a video is more cpu based anyways.

I would build a box without a GPU and if you really need one, get one later.

A lot of computers don't have HDMI, only display port.

Get a compute stick from intel or a raspberry pi. Both have HDMI out. You don't need anything fancy for streaming. Also use Windows 10.
