One person is in critical condition and another received serious injuries following a vehicle collision on the Alex Fraser Bridge, Saturday morning.
In total, four people were injured when a stalled vehicle was struck by a taxi on the Alex Fraser Bridge, shortly before noon on Saturday.
At approximately 11:45 a.m., a motorist’s vehicle stalled in the southbound lane of the Alex Fraser Bridge. The vehicle directly behind the stalled vehicle was able to change lanes quickly to avoid a collision but the car behind it was unable to stop in time, subsequently striking the stalled vehicle.
The occupants of both vehicles got out to inspect damages to both vehicles and agreed to meet off the bridge. Before they could move, a taxi struck the second vehicle. As a result of the second impact, four people were sent to a local hospital. Two were released with minor injuries, one received serious injuries, and a fourth individual was listed as being in critical condition, requiring emergency surgery.
The Integrated Collision Reconstructionist team was called out and the scene was cleared at 5:00 PM.
Cpl. Robert McDonald of the R.C.M.P. Traffic Services underscored the danger of stopping on a bridge. “Bridges are very dangerous places to stop, whenever possible, people should remain in their cars and call for assistance,” he said in a release.
