Sorry brah, you're in the wrong here.

Especially since it was a student driver, shouldn't even have honked at all. Apart from startling her, didn't really get you anywhere faster.

Semi was following too close, only ~2.5 seconds behind at highway speeds. Should've been at least 4 seconds.

Dump truck still a dick for not yielding.

Been in a similar situation as the Driver. Fucking sucks cause it could have been easily avoided but at the same time he should have known his stopping distances a bit better.

But also the car had so much fucking room, that driver should learn to check their mirror for any traffic behind that may not be able to stop.

I feel really bad for the driver of the truck who was filming. Although he may have been following a little close (I'm not sure how it is for a rig, although the distance seems fine for car vs car) but if the dump truck didn't roll through then none of that would have happenned.

I reacted the exact same way many years ago when I got into my first and only accident (my fault)

General rules of thumb are:
Following behind similarly-sized vehicle in good conditions - 2 seconds
Following behind similarly-sized vehicle in poor conditions - 4 seconds

Following behind significantly lighter vehicle in good conditions - 4 seconds
Following behind significantly lighter vehicle in poor conditions - 8 seconds

So if you, in a regular car, are following say a motorcycle or, in this case, you're driving a commercial truck following a regular car, you should be following no closer than 4 seconds at any time.

I really feel bad for the truck driver too. His distance was probably a bit too close for a truck of his size, but the other driver's an idiot for just stopping like that.

I've been following this guys videos for quite some time, and he's got some pretty good videos.

The Corolla driver may not have reacted the best way (ie. swerve a bit to the left, speed up [as much as you can in a Corolla] to avoid getting sideswiped or clipped by the dump truck), but if you see a double-dump truck that's roughly 50x the weight of your car careening towards you, natural instinct is to slow down/stop. S/he's not an idiot for stopping like that, a lot of people would react exactly the same. It's unfortunate there was another semi relatively close behind.

To me it looks like it's the dump-truck's fault, and hopefully whomever is adjudicating this incident will see so as well. Maybe 75 dump truck 25 semi.

That being said, did the Corolla get pushed that far ahead by sheer momentum?

Perhaps let him know he's being an asshat and he'll change his mind and go straight and take a detour instead of trying to force his way in and disrupting traffic.

Where the fuck does he need to go that he can't just go straight, take the next left at Minoru and turn back onto #3 via Lansdowne?

I hate people who do this kind of thing; changing across lanes in traffic to try and make their turn when they can easily just keep going straight and take a few turns on the next block and get to where they need to go without blocking everybody behind them.

i seem to be the only one who thinks the corolla is mostly at fault, you don't completely stop on a part of a highway, the dump truck wasn't even that close to the corolla, but i notice the corolla was already so cautious and to the left, if the corolla driver had any balls, there was plenty of time and space to gun it past the dump truck and this whole situation wouldn't have happened.

Atleast the semi truck won't get any fault. The Corolla was an idiot for stopping, and the dump truck is just as much to blame as he didn't successfully yield. I could see ICBC actually going after the dump truck as you can clearly see he did NOT yield at all. He was still rolling even once the collision had happened, then he left the scene of an accident. (Charges?)

True, but the student driver should've atleast been in the intersection. His tires were just sitting on the crosswalk lines. Bad teaching IMHO.
