Everybody was stopped.

All of a sudden, the integra's wheels screeched and the car went to the left turn lane (that turns into Shell).

I was like, "huH?"

3 seconds later, a train (locomotive first) passed by... literally 3 seconds...

If the integra had not noticed the train, and not moved, he would have been hit by the train (moving at around 50 km/h... but with thousands of tonnes of force behind it).

Wow.

Very close call.

That intersection has a sign that clearly says not to stop on the tracks, but I've seen many people stop with their cars on the track.

It's especially dangerous on a railway track crossing that does not have closing gates (on that intersection, I have often wondered why they didn't have those gates... then I assumed it was the red light on Shell was too close to the tracks, thus gates would not work well or impede traffic flow).

Lesson learned for the integra driver.

The weird thing is that the locomotive DID Not sound its horn to warn the integra driver.
some cities have bylaws that prohibit trains from using their horns in residential areas. either entirely or between certain times.

You would think a situation like that would override the bylaw.

Parking etiquette question

I was trying to find parking at the plaza that has Neptune seafood, Dynasty, chapters etc in Richmond ytd

Parking was super hard to find so most cars just stuck at one area and waited for cars to leave.
I had my signal on, waited, then i finally see a guy leaving about 3 cars away

All of the sudden vw golf pulls up and tried to take my spot
He claims that he "saw the owner of the car and followed him"

So who's right in this situation? Me who's been waiting for the spot for 10min with the signal to appropriate side about 3 cars away?
Or the guy who claims he "followed the owner"?

Piece of shit blocked my way and didn't let me reverse park for good 10min

To properly assess the situation, we're going to need dashcam footage..... with audio.

The way I see it is if I'm already sitting there with my blinker on, I got first dibs.

I hate it when I see people following me in their cars while I'm walking to mine. If I'm not in a rush, I'll purposefully walk the wrong direction or simply get in my car and take as long as possible to leave. It's even worse when you have to run back to your car for something (phone, wallet, an empty bag, whatever) and when someone tries to take the spot and you say you're not leaving, they start swearing at you.

I don't know about this. To me, sitting with your blinkers and waiting for a spot is already breaking parking etiquette. My reasoning being, could you imagine if everyone did this? The parking lot would be totally congested. So if not everyone should be doing this, why are you special?

I totally get why you'd be mad if someone is rushing you to your car while following you, but otherwise I think you're just being an asshole. It's not easy finding a spot sometimes, so why wouldn't you follow a potential lead?

If I'm not leaving, I usually signal to the car following me that I'm not leaving, or wave a car over when I am leaving. I've never been sworn at or given dirty looks.

There were no other cars in the row I was in other then my car and a car behind me who was also waiting for a spot at that time. Personally I don't see why you can't if you are pulled to the side, not too close from other cars and you're not blocking the traffic. But of course, if I was disrupting the traffic flow and parking lot was too tight, i would've moved. So the question is, did the person who claimed to have "followed the person from the store" have first dibs? Or me who's been waiting for a spot with a signal to the appropriate side, 3 spots away before that vw came? I was just curious as to if I did something wrong last night.

Some what agree with you on this part though. But last time I told the person I wasn't leaving he gave me a dirty stare. Not sure why. Maybe he was just moody.

PS apologies for shitty grammar and possible spelling mistakes. On my phone and had few drinks.

You misunderstand me. If I see someone getting into their car and I happen to be right in that vicinity, then I'd say I have better dibs to the spot than someone who's been following the guy since he left the building but had to drive around the parking lot instead of being able to cut through the individual car lanes to get to that spot.

See, I've tried doing the who signalling thing and telling them that I'm not actually leaving, but they usually ignore it and keep following me anyway. It's not until after I've gotten back out of my car and start walking back towards the building that they realize their folly.

And while I understand the whole following a lead aspect of it, I hate the feeling of being followed. It's not a paranoia thing; it's just when you've got a kid with you, you tend to be far more aware and protective of everything that's going on around you.

As for not leaving right away, honestly when I take my time it's because I need to take my time. Bluetooth doesn't always sync with my car right away, so it often takes a good couple minutes to reboot the system to get it working. There's also making sure children and properly buckled in their seats and any other numerous things before I drive away. I'm not going to do all that stuff while driving.
