I'd love it if the city would deal with traffic violations in Richmond more.. It would be an easy cash grab and people would get their shit straight or keep paying fines. So much negligence when driving these days.

The city is pretty ruthless for non-moving violations. They mail out the tickets lol.

Moving violations would require more traffic officers, which I hardly see happening.

^Hope the dude's ok. People should be extra careful crossing the streets these days. It's the worst time of the year to be out; dark after 4pm, mostly wet, cold and slippery.

who would be wrong in that situation? he was jaywalking and also don't assume that the car is going to stop for you... i couldn't tell at 9-10 second mark, did he put his hand up to the car?
(to say 'please let me walk')

knowing icbc, it would probably be the drivers. to me it seemed like the dude didn't even stop or check if there was an oncoming vehicle.

Seems like insurance fraud to me. Guy starts limping and falls to the ground.... on the knee he couldn't "walk on"

There's also 2 crosswalks that are literally 5 feet away and Darwin over here decides its a good idea to jaywalk in the dark pouring rain

The car does seem like moving at very slow speed

The light is green too for the car, it should really not be the cars fault, but the jaywalker was an idiot.

Why would it be 50/50? Pedestrians have the right of way ONLY when their crossing light is green and/or at Crosswalks. I assume that ICBC would claim negligence on the part of the pedestrian, and can refuse to pay him out. As for the vehicle, as long as there was no damage on the car, I dont think the driver will be going after anyone for a payout.

Personally I feel that this was an Insurance fraud attempt... Hopefully OP submitted the video to ICBC and the VPD.

Rain + night time = horrible vision for seeing pedestrians (and especially jaywalkers)
Please turn on your headlights, roll down your windows on a turn, turn on your wipers, change your streaky wipers, etc.

Pedestrians need to be careful of cars making turns through intersections. Sometimes drivers turn without getting a clear view of pedestrians on a crosswalk! (which scares me the most when I'm walking across the street)

They also need to wear brighter clothing or something reflective! Getting tired of almost hitting people because they're wearing all black on a rainy night while jaywalking.
