How do you all wash your vegetables?

Soak in water?

Rinse vegetables under the tap?

Vegetable wash spray?

Santofu 11-24-2011 10:02 PM

It's really depends on which vegetable I use, like for example... root vegeatbles, I'll rinse them under the water, if it is green vegetable or something related.. I'll soak them in water to remove dirt and etc...
I never heard of this "Vegetable Wash Spray"... Enlighten me please.

Fit Fruit and Vegetable Wash

I'll usually just toss it under the tap, even when I'm at work.

soap and water :troll:

Bonka 11-25-2011 01:24 AM

Very quick rinse to avoid having them soaked with water. We have an electric stove and wet vegetables on that heat source ends up with steamed or boiled vegetables :/

Keep your mushrooms away from water! I don't even wipe mine down :D

I wonder how many foodsafe violations I've committed, I've heard arguments on both sides..

^ Mushrooms I can't bring my self to not wash, white button mushrooms are usually so dirty and filthy!

I do clean then under tap water and sous vide my veggies!

xilley 11-25-2011 03:28 AM

run it through the tap scrub scrub and i add some salt

murd0c 11-25-2011 06:43 AM

hand wash under a tap and dry with a paper towel, lettuce rinse under cold water and put it in a salad spinner.

xilley 11-25-2011 06:46 AM

^ paper towel?! that shits expensive said my asian mother :troll:

Speed2K 11-25-2011 06:49 AM

^I use Xilley's method and dry with a paper towel.

I've seen restaurants (and some chefs on TV) not wash some of their veggies, like a romaine heart where they cut it in half and use the entire half; aren't they worried about bugs?

xilley 11-25-2011 06:54 AM

alot of places dont wash their veggies
ex:the asian market in metrotown (not sure if allowed to say company) never wash their veggies for the chinese food they sell as my uncle worked there for a bit

SkinnyPupp 11-25-2011 07:14 AM

Usually have to soak them in salt water for a bit, then rinse them. We have found all sorts of creatures in our veggies, from tiny caterpillars, to small flies, to freakin snails.

cho 11-25-2011 07:28 AM

water and rub with my hands

stuff like mush i use a wet towel

SumAznGuy 11-25-2011 07:49 AM

Usually soak my mushrooms and rub with a wet towel to get rid of the dirt.

Greens soak in salt water to remove dirt or bugs.

Romaine Hearts are typically washed before being processed so washing is not that nescessary. A head of Romaine lettuce is different. Peel of the numbers of leaves you want to eat, and treat as greens.

What's the advantage of using salt water?

the mush absorb all the water if you soak em =\

i like to shake the whole head of romaine in water and wash twice

I don't leave them in the water overnight. =)
Quick rinse should suffice but definately wipe them clean of the dirt.

Salt water is supposed to kill the worms and bugs.

vafanculo 11-25-2011 10:50 AM

Lettuce I'll chop up, throw it in a pasta drainer, run under tap. Veggies like carrots, potatos etc I'll peel them first, quick rinse. Mushrooms same thing, pasta drainer, and fondle them like I fondle my balls in the shower to get em nice n clean n shiny.

your asking opinions on how to wash vegetables :fulloffuck:

phunky.FOB 11-26-2011 12:03 AM

Lol mushrooms there's nothing wrong with washing them in water. Its dirty, wiping doesn't really do much...cause every veggie has water content in them already doesn't do any harm to the mushrooms if u rinse them under water.
I soak my greens with salt water too . It gives a nice crisp to them after. I soak them for about 5 minutes but with many times of water.
