Asia tours from Hong Kong

I'm thinking about heading to HK in a few weeks and I'm planning to stop by at one other destination during the trip. I'm thinking Taipei right now but open to suggestions, particularly in South Korea, Japan, or Singapore.

I don't have very much time to plan so I'm thinking of joining a tour from HK to one of the destinations. Is there a place where I can book it online? Would I get a better deal if I arrive in HK first and hit up the travel agencies there or would time constraint be a problem?

Also, how are hostels in HK? Pretty ghetto?

Have you ever been on a chinese tour before? If not, you better find out what it entails.

I just went to Beijing recently for the first time and enjoyed it a lot more than HK so that may be an option.
