Shaking and Rattling :@

hey guys, i have a 1996 toyota camry. wonder if anyone else has the same problems as me. the car shakes pretty bad at idle speed and worsens after i drive a bit. whether its in the cold during the morning or wen its at operating temperature, it will still shaking during idle. the rattling problem also comes in the 750-1700 rmp range and is very noticable. anyone know the cure to these things?

TIA

rattle could be a loose heat shield in the engine bay OR under the car around the exhaust pipe. Take a few hours and jack up the car and wait for it to cool, then go under there and try to wiggle some of the shields/pipes and see if they hit anything.

shaking at idle could be anything from a dirty MAF to a busted/faulty Idle Air Control Valve. Kinda hard to diagnose over internet.

Had that Problem before on my mazda 3... It had cracked engine mounts. Got my dad (a tech) to replace them and my car doesn't shake anymore

If you can feel your whole interior shake then it may be broken engine mount(s) as another person suggested.

I replaced 1 mount before on a Corolla as suggested by a friend and it cured the problem 95%. The mount I replaced looked perfectly fine after taking it out so it may be difficult to tell it is busted.

Sounds like worn out motor mounts to me, especially since it does this at idle/low rpm. My old Porsche did the same thing and the Hydraulic motor mounts were known to fail and allow the vibrations at idle.

first place i would look is your exhaust. the peices holding it in place could be rusted out or loose. aside from that you can check for any loose peices in the trunk or a head shield under the hood
