Eclipse spyder or Golf GTI ?

Just wondering if it is worth to trade in a 2007 mitsubishi eclipse spyder GT (value$10,000) for a 2012 Golf GTI?? Would you keep the spyder or would you switch to a GTI?

I wouldn't...unless you need the VW for practicality. Even in that case, there are better options...

Umm, that's not really an upgrade from the eclipse gt... its more of a lateral sideways move or maybe even a small downgrade.

I say keep the eclipse.

Depends what you use it for, I feel that the GTi is the ultimate daily driver. If you are looking for something to tune I'd wait for one of the new RWD cars that are coming or get a hyundai.

just cuz the spyder started to need a lot of minor fixing and stuff, thats why im thinking of trading it for something else. not considering too too much about performance, just looking for something that's pleausrable to drive. What other choices do i have? budget is below $40k after tax and everything. didn't really like the civic si btw.

They're both ugly. I wouldn't spend money on either of them. Eclipse is a shadow of what it used to be, and the GTI is a pain to work on like every other newer VW. Also way overpriced when new.

Whoa, I know there's plenty of (more expensive) cars that are faster than the GTI, but slow as hell?

the 200 bhp and 207 torque advertised for the GTI is actually to the wheels. they average ~190-203whp and ~200-210 wtorque stock.

with a simple stage 1 flash, it can start getting pretty quick ;]

i love the new GTI ;D!

There are cheaper cars that are faster too. Performance is subjective though.

Ok start listing some brand new cars that would fit that bill.

hyundai genesis all the way in my opinion bro....that styling is beautiful and as soon as you take off the hyundai badges and put the winged genesis badges it becomes even more of a beauty.

^i personally hate the wing badge, it makes the car look like a little teenager boys car along with some retarded level of identity crisis

either leave it, shave it it off and fill in holes, or plasti dip/black it out

I optioned out a new GTI with the leather package and DSG. No nav or other options. 35k, 41k after bullshit dealership fees.

DSG equipped GTI does 0-60 in 5.8, according to MT. Manual trans GTI is closer to 6.5.

Subaru WRX(26k): 4.8

Mazdaspeed3(2010)(33k): 5.5

Genesis 3.8 V6(33k): 5.7

Cobalt SS-2010(25k): 5.5

Caliber SRT-4-2009(26k): 5.7

There are many other options for the OP, considering his budget is about 40k. Here are just a few.
