Don't know why, but I woke up today feeling like a complete sack of shit. Not physically (that was yesterday, as I was hung over) but mentally. I feel completely unmotivated and just shitty overall. Not just with training but with life.

But I am going to force myself to the gym now, and see if I can bust my ass into turning this around. I have work to do, but don't feel like doing anything. Let's see if picking up heavy objects helps out any.

A friend at work is usually very dedicated to the gym going at least 5 days a week. She talks about her motivation to get toned etc. I find out today she hasn't gone in 10 days because of Xmas and family ish going on. I know that Xmas is tough for people, but skipping something you enjoy just makes things worse.

If I miss a work out because of stuff going on in my life, it makes me feel even worse. Even though it is harder to fit in gym time I still find the time. Even if I don't feel like going I still go. I'm sure you will feel better after going. I always do.

he is short like me, 5 foot 4 or so, but has humongous calves...like genetically freaky calves

we were doing lat pull ups and this Terry Crews like beast of a guy was staring at us and i thought he wanted to work in

turns out he was mirin my buddy's calves and said in 10 years of working out, he will never come close to what my friend has

i wish i had calves

to skinny, put a long term goal in mind and think that with every rep that you do you're getting closer to that goal

They say rep counting actually restricts gains, so Id put up a different goal than that…maybe measure them

agreed with the rep counting. before i start if i say i want to do around 8 i will do exactly 8. etc.

what i try to do sometimes is say "ok im going to do a few until it starts to get harder, and then count 5 more" that seems to really work well for jamming out the extra reps into the 10-12 range without even realizing it.

however in the higher weight lower rep range like 6 or so, i know the amount of weight im doing i can only do 6 so theres no point in kidding myself.

depends if you're going for strength (high weight lower reps) or volume.

Is your friend chinese? We have noticed this since moving here, that a lot of hongers have ridiculous huge calves, even school girls. We call them "honger calves"

As for rep counting, I use the method promoted by Chad Waterbury. I'll post some more info when I get home.

Just finished my workout, I feel better now. Not the best workout though. Started with 10 reps dl @ 270. Will probably add 5 to 10 lbs every week to hit 300. That's my short term goal.

I'm Chinese (mostly) and I have huge calves... and quads.

Genetics may help, but as long as you put in enough time and effort - it'll all come.

Was on bb.com/misc this morning and the world record bench press holder was on there answering questions.

Quote:
Rep tempo is always slow on the way down the explosion on the way up. When you are going down it is not a race, you want to be pressing up while you are going down to keep the triceps engaged. Your back and triceps should be so wound up that when you hit the bottom of the lift and you activate your leg drive, the weight should effortlessly pop up
For anyone that is more concerned with strength than bb.
When he was 25 he did over 300 lbs for 56 reps.. lol
