my 2 cents, you should only be having big back archs and legs way back on bench if your going for HEAVY weight im talking 3plates+, anything lower should be flat and use heal drive

when i say arch i should clairify. i dont mean force an arch. i dont do the foot tuck either.

i have my feet a little wider, feet directly under knees, and then squeeze the fuck out of everything from my ass up my back and drive my heels HARD into the floor. this ends up lifting my ass up about 1-2" above the bench but everything is super tight and locked. the key is to squeeze your ass, not push your hips.

rock solid all the time. and good enough for 305lbs so far

This...

Not everyone is built the same. I tried Olympic style and just didn't feel comfortable and tweaked a knee.

Practice at weight you're comfortable squatting with and play with wider stance, narrow, low or high bar. But same things apply, push out core, drive from heels.

On another note, for the bench press, I read some articles saying lock and don't lock for joint/elbow issues. The theme is, don't lock...

But that makes no sense, because for Dips, you lock at the top. That's also theoretically putting a lot of strain on the elbow? Right?

I tweaked it during bench. I think I was benching 285 when it happened.

It's not bad if you just started lifting, and it's definitely far from being "pretty beast." The guy you know sounds like a typical brolifter. That, or he has back issues.
jesus christ what the fucks your problem? I was just saying I had a beast workout with another member here.

just shut the fuck up already. It's not like I came in here bragging how much better I was than you.

anyways I posted a video of me benching 265 a few pages ago if anyone is curious how my form usually is

Wtb: a spot. | Facebook
You came across as an arrogant prick with the "I'm pretty beast, just saying" comment.

Solid lift in the vid though breh. Time to upload a vid of yourself performing a set of deadlifts

Isn't completing each rep on the benchpress as fast as possible called the "speed bench?"

For me personally, a back arch for bench is more natural than keeping a flat back. Obviously you don't need a ridiculous bridge like:

but enough that your traps are digging into the bench.
That looks fucking ridiculous. lmfaoo.

no, compound exercises should be done fast/explosive. if you arent explosive how are you going to accelerate through the lift? once you stop accelerating your lift is over.

time under tension is great IMO on assistant exercises not compound

i can't speak for bodybuilding personally...

but do you ever play a sport where you have to hold/move something in a slow, controlled manner?

almost every conventional sport is about moving the most amount of weight in the least amount in time and generating maximal velocity whether its throwing a ball or hitting someone

you definetly have a great point there... when you train for explosiveness you're really working on the type II fast twitch, which can produce the greatest amount of force in a shorter time...

time under tension, is just playing with semantics a lil bit... cus it's not like you're not under tension when you're doing the bench at a higher speed

in theory, the heavier you go, the slower you'll get, so working on explosiveness will help you with the drive to push the weight up so that you finish the rep entirely
