MCLEAN, VA. – Federal prosecutors in Virginia have shut down one of the world's largest file-sharing sites, $$$$$$$$$$.com, and charged its founder and others with violating piracy laws.
The indictment accuses the company of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content. The indictment was unsealed Thursday, one day after websites shut down in protest of two congressional proposals intended to thwart the online piracy of copyrighted movies and TV programs.
$$$$$$$$$$.com has claimed it is diligent in responding to complaints about pirated material.
The indictment says at one point, $$$$$$$$$$ was the 13th most popular website in the world.
It's M E G A-U P L O A D that is shut down..
not sure why RS blanks it out...

Pure speculation by me, but unless their servers were actually based in the US, I would assume this is like many of other sites that the US government has shut down, where the site itself isn't gone, just that they took over the DNS entry for it.
So possibly very soon, we may see the site being changed to $$$$$$$$$$.tv or something, which will point to the same servers we've always seen.
