Strong Umbrellas

It's been windy for the past rainy days and my umbrella is having a hard time not being flipped inside-out. Could someone recommend where I could get a reliable umbrella?

Preferably not the huge ones that look like it can fit 3 people underneath.

The Bay downtown carries good quality umbrellas (ie. Totes). I bought mine eons ago and its still in very good shape. :)

This beastly thing:

senz° / the original storm umbrella

unit 01-26-2012 09:59 AM

i have one. generally wouldnt recommend it.
best thing to do is wear a hooded raincoat on a windy, rainy day and not try to fight the wind with an umbrella.

Where did you get your senz? I want one but according to their website they don't ship to Canada. Thanks!

i bought it from woot, it was the deal of the day at the time.
few of my coworkers bought it at the same time and one of them picked it up in the states.

Fulton makes the best umbrellas. Super small, super light and never goes inside out. You can get them at Sears and actually the Shoppers Drug Mart in Yaletown carries them as well.

i had a midsized fulton and it was pretty awesome.
got it at shoppers in richmond so i guess they're everywhere.
it broke cause i carelessly grabbed it from my car once and one of the ribs got snagged :okay:

I actually saw this one at the London Transport Museum: The Commuter - London Undercover x Transport for London Tube Seat Umbrella

It's a REALLY NICELY BUILT umbrella....if it were not close to $100CAD, I would have totally picked it up.

Anyone care to guess how much duty would cost for one of these bad boys?

Don't think there would be duty, but surely tax since its way above $50cad.

anything above 20 might get hit by duty

Levitron 02-10-2012 07:20 PM

"Tax" is basically in effect for anything you buy...including items shipped from abroad.

"Duty" is a charge on top of taxes that is applied onto specific products, with rules governing which kind of products will be charged duty...i.e. tires made in China.

ShadowBun 02-10-2012 07:49 PM

yea i dont think that umbrella is made in NA

According to this: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trade-com...6-2012-eng.pdf

Duty is 7% for "walking stick umbrellas". This is in addition/on top of the 12% HST.

No it doesn't work this way.

Again, taxes and duty does not work this way. See my above response to LIKEABOSS.
