A True Testament to Honda Reliability

So my wife has a 98 V6 Honda Accord with over 268,000 KM. Last night she called me from work saying that her car won't start. I am thinking worst case scenario here. That its finally time for this car to give in! With a baby on the way a new car expense was not something I was looking forward to. So I call BCAA for her to have it towed from her work to a mechanic but it turns out that her battery was the issue. Not a biggie issue that's a cheap replacement.

The amazing part here is that its the freaking original battery from when the car first rolled off the dealership lot! I was completely in shock! This car is 14 years old and the battery has lasted that long! Crazy!!

GO HONDA GO!... unfortunately i dont think they build cars like they used to ...while keeping costs down to compete, i'm sure there's been some cut corners.

I love Honda's.. but really in this case you should be praising the manufacturer of the battery lol.

my roomates 91 has 443,000km on original motor.. he only puts about 400$ into the car every 2 years. only burns a liter a month. its rusty, dented and ugly but it runs like a beaut.

I disagree, I have a 2003 [MFY 2002] Honda Accord Coupe V6 and after 10 years it still looks/drives like brand new. The only thing that broke in these ten years was one of my power door locks and that only cost a few hundred bucks to fix.

And I still get compliments on my "new" car every now and then.

I love Honda!

PS. I'm also still on my original battery.

My coworker has a Honda Accord, I'm not sure what year, but around 2000.
He's never done an oil change on it. The car maybe has had one oil change in it's life.
All he's ever done is add oil and it has over 280,000KM. He says it runs fine.
to me tho....

Semi off-topic,

but couldn't / shouldn't BCAA have detected it was the battery problem, before it was towed?

Sorry should have phrased it better. BCAA came and I thought they would need to tow it but he just jumped it for us.

Alternator was replaced 2 yrs ago and at that time Honda said the battery didn't need to be replaced

That's awesome!

Not to steal your thunder, yet with our mild weather batteries should last a long time. 14 tears is exceptional, yet we should all expect to get at least 10 years. I just replaced the battery in my GF's Volvo, almost 11yo. My battery is almost 10yo and going strong despite freezing winters and scorching summers in Ontario.

No I did not say it was a lot. I just mentioned the km's the vehicle has. I know there are vehicles with way more than mine.
