Honda Specialist on the Island

I know we have an island thread, but I don't see much traffic there so thought I might have more luck in VAC.

Long story short, I'm contemplating trading in my 07 Subaru Spec B for a 2005 AP2 that's on the Island, but before I make any decisions I would like to get the S2K inspected by a trustworthy/competent mechanic.

So anybody reccomend any shops/mechanics on the Island that I should contact to arrange such an inspection?

Thanks in advance,

Is the car at a dealership or private sale?

You could ask the island S2ki guys to take a look at the car first? Ddonavan on RS is one of the mods on the island branch of S2ki.

Dealership
Campus Honda...
SumAznGuy...I know you use to own a S2K (pretty sure I sat In ur car a few times at autox)....ur thoughts on this potential 'purchase'...I think its gonna be pretty close to a stright up trade..I know I'm giving up a lot of practicalility for "fun"...but I think I'd be okay with that. Not sure if the 'pricing' is right though.

My 07 subbie has 66K, the AP2 has 68K...so pretty close, but my car is 2 years newer...asking price for the AP2 is almost 26K...ideally I'm hoping to trade + get a few K back...but I think dealer is thinking closer to "stright trade"....ur thoughts? (Obviously this all depends on condition of S2K, but given what I saw, this car was purchased and maintained at the same dealership. And they have all service reccords.

I am guessing this is the car you are talking about right?
Used Car | Campus Honda Used Car | Victoria Honda Dealership

I'm not sure what your Subie is worth as a trade in.

As for the S, I don't regret having it. You only live once and it was a great 5 years that I spent with mine.
Since the car is "local" and not a US import, some dealers will try to ask for more. Remember, this car was close to $50K when new and only in the last few years they started to offer cash discounts up to $8K I believe at the peak when everyone was running to the US to buy cars. I've seen prices all over the place with US cars. Before the winter, a low mileage 06 with 40,000 miles could be bought for $16K usd but in recent months it looks like some prices have gone back up as there appears to be less low mileage non rebuilt cars.

Definately ask the Island guys to take a look at it. The usual applies here. If all the vin stickers match, then that is a good starting point.
Being an island car, aircare might not show anything and I am not sure if Carproof will give you any new info.

Good luck with the car.

Yes that's the one I'm looking at....
Also 2007 Honda S2000 - $22,999 that one....but seems a bit "too good to be true"...and also the fact that its an AP2 on AP1 wheels is a "warning sign" for me..

I agree. No reason an AP2 car to be on AP1 wheels.
I "think" that 07 looks like it is lowered.

$26k is big money for an 05 with almost 70k. They have had the car for at least a month based on their CL postings so don't be afraid to make an offer with a bit of discount though being at a Honda dealership, there's no point in expecting much.

Your Spec-B is VERY hard to put a number on given how rare they are and few datapoints there are to compare. We had a guy with an 07 with 40k trying to get $25k and we were talking closer to $20k so if they are giving you a straight trade then you are doing alright - there is no way that the would sell that car cash for less than $24k and we would never give you that kind of money on trade, so you're doing great.

Hope that helps,
Mark

That actually makes me feel a lot better
Do you by chance know their user names?
I will give them a PM, and ask for their opinion on the car
I really don't want to make a trip over to the island if I'm not 100% certain on the car....ferry costs are getting ridicoulous these days

I just heard from a few friends that AutoFX and 5252 are two of the more reputable tuner shops on the Island, and both are able to provide a pre sale inspection. Any feedback on the two shops?

Going to try to make a trip over to the island this Saturday, look at the car, and potentially pull the trigger.
