what mtf do you run?

Hey revscene,

i have a first gen dc5, has the notchy/grindy shift from 1st-2nd. My question is what fluid do you run that helped get rid of this problem? Ive read ppl use GM sychromest, redline, amsoil, honda green label? I changed my mtf fluid with acura genuine mtf but problems still exists and came across a squee when engine and trans engages. Any help and feedback isgreatly apreciated.

TIA

You know it gets to a point that the transmission just need a rebuild.

Does it pop out from 2nd to 3rd? Mine was popping when the car wasn't fully warmed up. Decided to put swap out the OEM stuff to AMSoil and it never did it again. (Facelifted DC5 @~100000km)

did u ave the 2nd gear grind? thats my main concern cuz the previous owner didnt drive it much and probably never changed the mtf. my gears are not popping, just grinding. and sometimes at a red light i leave it in neutral and wen its green, i put into first, but it doesnt always get into 1st. i have to go to second from neutral then to first. weird car.

Got it from a dealership in states. I never had grinding issues to start off with. Could be your synchro's that are causing the problem.

try synchromesh and let us know how it goes... i tried redline mt90 and it didnt help much at all... i think i might have the trans rebuild...

does anyone know if the grinding noise means if the synchro is completely worn off or if its just beginning to wear out?

and when it pops out of gear its completely worn out?

not sure if i should rebuild the synchros now or when it pops out of gear.

At some point you will have to rebuild the syncros. There are many circumstances to consider for example how long you plan on keeping the car and resale value between a transmission that's been serviced or not etc.

i switched over to amsoil when my car was @ 80,xxxkm i had the similar problem. But after switching it does help, less grinds etc.. I do have a heavier shift knob now(blox heavy weighted ball) and buddyclub shifter and metal bushings installed too.
give it a amsoil a shot, wouldnt hurt and also beats rebuilding the tranny.

Where did u get the parts from? Crsx? Does the upgrades help a bit? Is the buddyclub shifter a short shifter?

Thanks

No, it would go into 1st fine and I couldn't really remember if it grinded going into 2nd. More or less like not as easy to get into as other gears and so was 3rd.

I changed the tranny fluid with the OEM honda mtf at 80,000. I'm now at 83,500 and I can say that the fluid sucks. It was good for the first week of driving, but it was back to normal afterwards.

I'm going to try amsoil or gm next as well.
